Welcome to back The Sinodinos Files.

I'm Peter Sinodinos.

Arthur has spent decades working at the highest levels of Australian public policy, economics and government, while I've spent my career in business working with organisations and people affected by the decisions governments make.

Today, in our first foray back into these podcasts together, Series 2, I am asking Arthur about AUKUS. Aukus is no longer an abstract strategic agreement, but the issue is there are some misnomers around it. In this episode we discuss AUKUS and what it means to our sovereign nations' security.

Hello, and welcome to the final episode of The Sinodinos Files.I'm Peter Sinodinos, and as always, I'm joined by my older brother, Arthur.Over the past six episodes we've looked back at the forces that have shaped modern Australia. We've discussed grievance politics, the political centre, the Australian Dream, productivity and reflected on Arthur's maiden speech and the hopes that inspired a lifetime of public service.Today, we look forward. Not to predict the future, but to ask what kind of Australia we want to build by 2040. If we make the right decisions today, what could this country become?

Our conversation explores the foundations of a strong and confident Australia. We talk about the role of immigration in building a dynamic nation, the importance of world-class education, a healthcare system that cares for every Australian, and the businesses, entrepreneurs and innovators who create jobs, wealth and opportunity. We discuss the importance of productivity, economic resilience, social cohesion, strong institutions, and the values that have always underpinned Australia's success, fairness, hard work, aspiration and a willingness to look after one another.

But this episode isn't simply about economics or public policy. It's about hope.

Throughout these conversations around the dinner table, we've shared ideas, challenged one another and reflected on the country we both love. Like many Australian families, we've discovered that even when we don't agree on every detail, we share something much deeper: a belief that Australia's future is worth investing in. We believe that optimism is not passive. It comes from people choosing to contribute, to their families, their communities, their workplaces and to the nation itself.

If each of us becomes a purveyor of hope, encouraging others, solving problems, building rather than dividing, then the tide will always turn towards something better. Australia has never been defined by the absence of challenges. It has been defined by the character of the people willing to meet them. So perhaps the real question isn't simply, what will Australia look like in 2040?

It's this: What part will each of us play in creating it?
