Episode 5 – Productivity: Why It Matters to Every Australian

Hello, and welcome back to The Sinodinos Files.

I'm Peter Sinodinos, and as always, I'm joined by my older brother, Arthur.

Over the past few weeks we've explored Australia's changing political landscape and asked whether the Great Australian Dream is still within reach.

Today, we're talking about a word that gets used a lot in politics, business and the media but is often misunderstood.

Productivity.

It's one of those terms economists talk about, politicians promise to improve, and business leaders say is essential to our future. But what does it actually mean? More importantly, why should it matter to every Australian?

Is productivity simply about working harder? Or is it really about working smarter, creating better businesses, embracing innovation and making sure future generations enjoy a higher standard of living than we do today?

Drawing on Arthur's experience in economic policy and my own experience in business, we'll explore productivity from both sides of the table, the national perspective and the everyday reality of running a business, employing people and creating opportunities.

Because productivity isn't just an economic statistic. It's about wages, jobs, investment, opportunity and Australia's ability to compete in a rapidly changing world.
