Some wondered what this means for future relations and whether the US was attempting to meddle in European politics. First a review of what the new National Security Strategy says and does not say. Then analysis with DWs US Bureau Chief Ines Pohl. She points out that the document has not gotten massive attention as it has in Europe, and that the US appears to take sides with the far right political parties in many EU nations. She discusses the documents term civilizational erasure and the loss of identity from large immigration. From FRANCE- An interview with Christopher Sabatini, a senior fellow at Chatham House in London. They discuss the situation of the US military killing alleged drug runners and now, boarding and seizing an oil tanker moving Venezuelan oil. Is the flow of drugs from the country a key factor in the use of the military, or is it oil or regime change. Christopher talks about the illegality of US actions and that seizing their oil would hurt the US economy. From CUBA- Many in Honduras are saying the recent presidential election results were manipulated with US influence. The Colombian government accused the US of carrying out technical sabotage against Venezuelan airspace including deceptive signals and altering GPS systems. At least 21,000 Palestinian children are disabled or mutilated from the Israeli war on Gaza. From JAPAN- Japan is considering expanding its surcharge income tax on the so-called ultra-wealthy, from those making $19 million to those making $4 million. The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute released a report on the 100 largest arms producers, whose revenues increased to a new record of $679 billion in 2024- half of those sales to US weapon manufacturers. An interview with Luisa Neubauer a prominent German activist from Fridays for Future. She describes the various approaches to the climate crisis expressed at the conference, and the undermining of reductions in fossil fuels by corporate lobbyists- Germany promised $1 billion was promised for rainforest protection while annually giving $60 billion in fossil fuel subsidies. She talks about the importance of continuing the system of climate summits even though they are broken. Then a report on increasing settler violence in the occupied West Bank, where activists are being targeted. An interview with Aviv Tatarsky an Israeli researcher with the NGO Ir Amim. He discusses the increased attacks in the occupied West Bank despite the so-called ceasefire, and argues that the activities are defined by the term ethnic cleansing. He also discusses annexation, whether by decree or actions. From JAPAN- An update on the conflict enabled by the new Japanese PM, who remarked on the response a Chinese attack on Taiwan would create in Japan. Chinese President Xi spoke by phone with Trump on the Taiwan issue. Record breaking rains in Vietnam are still causing flooding, and further rains in Thailand just broke 300 year records, leaving many parts under water. The day before French President Macron and Zelensky announced an agreement for Ukraine to buy 100 French top end fighter jets. A review of British papers commenting on what is being called the most sweeping asylum policy overhaul of modern times, making it much tougher on refugees in the UK. From GERMANY- UN climate talks at COP30 in Brazil have drawn thousands of activists from around the world. Their demand is for real action, not just words on climate justice and change. A report by Tim Schauenberg on the scope of the protests and whether they are having an effect on the direction of the conference. From JAPAN- The new PM of Japan, Sanae Takaichi, created serious tension with China by suggesting that a Chinese attack on Taiwan would threaten Japan. China had agreed to import Japanese seafood recently but stopped after the PMs remarks on Taiwan. Toyota will invest nearly a $ billion in 5 factories making hybrid and electric cars in the US. The Israeli military killed 13 people at a Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon. Israel carried out aerial attacks across Gaza on Wednesday killing 25. From CUBA- Venezuelan President Maduro criticized the President of Trinidad and Tobago for allowing the installation of US military on their territory 15 km from Venezuela. The UN Security Council approved a US plan for a so-called stabilization force in Gaza, directed by a Board of Peace chaired by Trump- Russia denounced the plan which has no Palestinian input. The edit was in the show Panorama that aied in October 2024 just before the election. The BBC Director General and the News CEO resigned after criticism. An interview with David Kaye a professor of law at University of California, Irvine. From JAPAN- The head of the International Criminal Court (the ICC) has called for global cooperation to help it maintain its independence and impartiality. A second typhoon came ashore in the Philippines and Asia this week. More than 150 countries are officially attending the UN Climate Change Conference (COP 30) in Brazil. Following government plans for more austerity programs and cuts in the pension program, wealth taxes were proposed on the assets of French citizens owning over 100 million Euros- not an income tax but a tax on possessions. 86% of the French population supported the idea, the Parliament came up with a lite version, and then failed to pass any wealth tax at all. This week was the start of the 30th annual UN Climate Change Conference, or COP 30 being held in Brazil. At a preview meeting Brazilian President Lula da Silva expressed his goals in the meeting. From GERMANY- The hurricane disaster in Jamaica, stimulated by global warming, is an example of the importance of limiting greenhouse gas emissions. In the last 2 weeks many nations announced new climate goals. UN Secretary-General Guterres pointed out that the Paris Agreement goal is already a failure but should make countries get more serious not surrender. Then an analysis of the goals of COP 30 and the effect Trump not sending a delegation and calling climate change a hoax will have on the conference. From JAPAN- More than 5 feet of rain fell in parts of Vietnam in 24 hours, the most ever recorded in the country. In December Australia is going to start the ban on social media for those under 16. Following another Ukrainian bombing of a Russian oil port, Russia heavily bombed eastern Ukraine. From CUBA- Last weekend the US military bombed another boat in the Caribbean alleged to be carrying drugs to the US , bringing the death toll to at least 64- the UN has demanded the US stop these attacks. According to Ox-Fam the 10 richest Americans have increased their wealth by $700 billion since the January. Israel continues bombing in Gaza and has only allowed 24% of aid trucks agreed to to enter Gaza. Then a report on the proposals for rebuilding the Gaza Strip. Israel is continuing its raids in Gaza despite agreeing to a ceasefire, and in the West Bank Israeli settlers made 71 attacks on Palestinians in the past week, beating them and driving them off their property.
