概要
A quiet four-mile loop turned into the hinge of a double life when a woman found a pair of polished brown oxford shoes neatly placed on a bridge over an eighteen-inch creek at 6:15 a.m.; who would leave shoes perfectly aligned with no socks and walk away barefoot into the dark? What do those shoes reveal about the man who kept two families sixty miles apart?
In this episode, we tell the chronological events from the discovery of the shoes through the unspooling of a hidden life, tracing movements, evidence, and the small decisions that exposed a secret; can the footage and the physical clues explain why he left his shoes on the bridge?
Person: Kent Erickson
Date: May 9, 2014 (discovery) / May 8-9, 2014 (camera footage)
Location: Calloway Park, Linden Creek bridge
Age: 26 (in spring 2014)
Distance: 60 miles between Tanner Falls and Millhaven
- The shoes were brown cap-toe oxfords, well polished, placed side by side facing the water with heels touching the railing and no socks.
- The creek below the bridge ran eighteen inches deep over gravel and the morning air was forty-four degrees.
- Kent Erickson drove roughly 1,800 miles a month for work and maintained two households: a wife and daughter in Tanner Falls and a second partner and infant son in Millhaven/Grover Mills.
- Kent used a paper agenda with blue blocks for Millhaven/Grover Mills, red blocks for Tanner Falls, and marked migraine days with an M as buffer zones.
- The maintenance camera captured a man in dress shoes climb onto the bridge railing at ~2:00 a.m., sit for 23 minutes, remove his shoes, set them by the railing, then walk barefoot across the park and into the parking lot.
