The Seat No One Wants Anymore

Shannon White was thirty-two when she took the CEO seat at the restaurant group that had just lost its founder to a public reckoning. Six years earlier she had been a server at Domenica. In this episode, Robert Adams sits inside her first move in the seat: she opened her door and a tip line, then let what came through it tell her what to build. What actually came through had nothing to do with what had put the seat in her hands. She built the program for the problem she actually found. Robert uses her arc to make the case that the leadership pipeline crisis is not a marketing problem to be fixed with perks and titles. It is a building problem. People did not stop wanting to lead. They looked at the seat, and the person in it, and decided it was not worth taking. The fix is making the seat worth wanting, one rising leader at a time.
