  • Sassy Salon: Episode 1 - Staying Authentically Creative (While Still Getting Paid)
    2026/08/09

Join Bethany on The Sassy Show for the first ever Sassy Salon - the monthly networking event for brands and content creators in London - recorded live with two exceptional multi-hyphenates: Derrick Kakembo and Myah Asha Jeffers.

From spoken word poetry and dramaturgy at the Royal Court to shooting campaigns for Uber, Netflix, the BBC, the V&A and Vogue, this is a conversation about how two of London's most in-demand creatives built entire ecosystems around their work - without losing themselves in the process.

Myah, a writer, director and photographer, traces her path from theatre to film, shares the Audre Lorde line she lives by ("your voice is your weapon"), and tells the story of walking away from opportunities due to inauthencitiy. Derrick opens up about learning the business of art as an assistant to photographer Rankin, building his own ecosystem with Reform the Funk, and his unapologetically strategic approach to community: "look for people who look like you, and recruit them one by one."

Expect honest talk on when brand work feels like compromise versus collaboration, the real economics of chasing creative freedom while still paying rent, pitching tricks that actually land, and where AI fits into the future of storytelling.

This is a conversation about building your own table, staying rooted in identity, and refusing to stay small out of fear.

Sassy Salon runs monthly in London through the end of 2026 - find out more at sassytalent.biz or follow us on Instagram @sassy_talent

  • AJAMU X: Punk, Pleasure, and the Politics of Black Queer Softness
    2025/12/14

Join Bethany on The Sassy Show as she sits down with renowned photographic artist Ajamu X in his studio for an intimate conversation about black queer bodies, pleasure, sensuality, and the radical act of gentleness.

From his post-punk roots in Northern England to his darkroom practice, Ajamu shares his philosophy on creating softer representations of black masculinity, his inspiration from the artist Rotimi Fani-Kayode, his love of old-school African-American porn magazines, and why he'd rather be called punk than queer.

Expect honest talk about foot fetishes, the sensuousness of image processing, navigating the art world as a black queer artist, and why his advice to younger artists is simple: be kinkier, be sexier, push it further.

This is a conversation about feeling rather than just seeing - from the darkroom to the dungeon, honey.

  • From The Slums to Spotify Podcaster to Self-Published Author - meet Sangeeta Pillai
    2025/11/06

In this powerful episode, award-winning podcaster and South Asian feminist Sangeeta Pillai joins The Sassy Show to discuss her debut memoir Bad Daughter.

From growing up in Mumbai's slums to landing on Times Square billboards, Sangeeta shares her journey of breaking cultural conditioning, surviving mental health struggles, and challenging the white middle-class gatekeepers of UK publishing. After 39 rejections despite her success with the award-winning Masala Podcast, she self-published her book 'Bad Daughter' - and she's here to tell other creatives why they should stop waiting for permission.

We dive into healing beyond therapy, the power of being a "bad daughter," and why resilience isn't just about surviving - it's about becoming bigger, bolder, and more yourself.

This conversation will inspire you to choose your own path, no matter who tells you it's impossible.
