In this episode of The Missing Files, host Una Graham investigates the tragic and mysterious death of Brian Jones, the founder and original guitarist of the Rolling Stones. This deep dive explores how the architect of the British Blues invasion was erased by the very band he created, examining the psychological fractures, substance abuse issues, and internal power struggles that led to his dismissal in June 1969. Listeners will discover the stark contrast between Jones's pivotal role in shaping the band's early sound and his subsequent isolation, offering a poignant look at the human cost of fame and creative displacement.

The narrative meticulously reconstructs the final hours of Jones’s life at Cotchford Farm in East Sussex, analyzing the coroner’s report, conflicting witness accounts regarding his swimming ability, and the high blood alcohol level found post-mortem. We explore why the official verdict of accidental drowning has spawned decades of conspiracy theories and public skepticism. By weaving together biographical details—from his childhood asthma and musical influences to his personal losses—this episode provides essential context for understanding the vulnerability of a man who was replaced by Mick Taylor less than a month before his death. It is a critical listen for true crime enthusiasts, music historians, and anyone interested in the dark underbelly of rock and roll mythology.

Beyond the immediate tragedy, we examine the cultural aftermath of Jones's death, including the late induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the enduring legacy of his final recordings on 'Let It Bleed.' This story serves as a sobering reminder of how fragile the human spirit can be when stripped of support systems.
