The Resentful Part
Resentment is often spoken about as though it is something unkind, bitter or unforgiving. But sometimes resentment is the part of the inner world refusing to erase what has never been properly acknowledged.
This episode begins with the part that has been keeping count.
The Resentful Part is a Sourel for the woman who has given too much, stayed quiet too often, carried invisible labour, absorbed the impact, kept the peace, and told herself it was fine when something in her knew it was not fine.
This reflection meets resentment as a sacred record of imbalance. A record of effort. A record of hurt that was minimised. A record of needs that were postponed for too long. A record of the places where her generosity began to cost her connection with herself.
The Resentful Part does not ask the listener to forgive on command, be gracious before she has been heard, or let go before the truth has been recognised. It invites her to ask what resentment may be protecting. What has not been acknowledged. Where did I say yes when something in me meant no. What needs care, truth or rebalancing now.
This Sourel honours resentment as a messenger that may be trying to keep a woman from disappearing inside her own giving.
The Resentful Part is part of The Fire Within, a September Sourel series for women reclaiming the sacred wisdom beneath anger, protection and the long held need to be seen.
Perhaps, when this part is finally heard, it will not have to keep count quite so loudly.
If you find yourself wanting something to return to between these reflections, in the actual moment a pattern like this one takes hold, I also built an app called Settle and Source. It offers a ninety-second guided practice for exactly the kind of moment this reflection has been describing, the gap between noticing an urge and knowing what to do with it. It is not a replacement for anything here, simply another door, in case it is the right one for you. https://settleandsource.com
