Welcome to The RC Deep Dive podcast, your daily masterclass in the world of Tamiya radio-controlled model vehicles in under 30 minutes.

This is the ultimate anti-fluff resource for Tamiya RC builders, bashers, crawlers, collectors, drifters, racers, and speed runners. We publish a new, concise episode every day, focusing on the vintage, classic, and rere (re-release) models that have defined the radio control hobby.

We go beyond the RC hobby workbench. One day we're detailing HOW-TO guides for hop-ups, CVA dampers, or MIP super ball diffs, and the next, we explore the applied physics and chemistry of why they work. We also uncover the lost RC cultural history of the Golden Age—from the Tamiya-Futaba alliance to the transfer of CRP's business assets to a new entity, Team CRP, or Parma PSE (Parma Speed Experts) International being bought by Mid-America Products.

This is your daily dose of R/C knowledge. No fluff, just the deep dive. We are all about that RC life!

Got a Tamiya question you can't solve? Ask it in the reviews or comments. It might become a future 5-15 minute deep dive. Subscribe now so you don't miss tomorrow's deep dive. It's the perfect anti-fluff way to start your day at the RC hobby workbench.

  • Top 10 Hop-Ups for the Tamiya HotShot Family of 4WD R/C Buggies
    2026/10/20

While the reres (re-releases) of the Tamiya HotShot family of 4WD (four wheel drive) R/C buggies had some serious updates over the iconic vintage originals, there are still a lot of hop-up options available for this entire family of icons, both for the vintage and rere editions. In this episode of the RC Deep Dive podcast we rank them and put them in tiers of necessity to build the ultimate 4WD buggy.

[NOTE: We still strongly recommend the MIP (Moore's Ideal Products) Super Ball Diff for the HotShot family even though it is difficult to find since it is currently discontinued]

  • Why Tamiya Made the ReRes of the HotShot Family of 4WD R/C Buggies Superior to the Vintage Icons
    2026/10/19

The HotShot Family of 4WD (Four Wheel Drive) radio-controlled buggies were iconic and each new family member was an improvement upon its previous kin. But when Tamiya re-released these R/C buggies they made massive improvements both family-wide but also to each individual radio control model vehicle too. In this episode of the RC Deep Dive podcast we break down each of these major improvements to the reres.

  • Ultimate Tribology and Market Analysis of R/C Lubrication Systems
    2026/10/18

In this episode of the RC Deep Dive podcast we look at the chemistry behind the physics and give A to F grades to the big 5 radio-controlled model vehicle hobby lubrication manufacturers, AE (Associated Electronics)/Team Associated/FT (Factory Team), Hudy, JConcepts, 1Up Racing, and Tamiya/TRF (Tamiya Racing Factory). The analysis utilizes a grading system (A-F) based on six distinct vectors: Reputation, Innovation, Affordability, Availability, Durability, and Longevity.

[NOTE: Although new products from most of these companies are now made mostly in buckets rather than squeeze bottles, there are still squeeze bottles in distribution warehouses and in local R/C hobby shops, so some brands still get a minor deduction in their grade for extant leaking containers.]
