• Episode 2: The Problem with Self-Help
    2026/09/02

In this episode, I talk about why bamboos don't break and the problem with self-help. Self-help tends to focus on the visible stalk but character formation asks a deeper question.

TO REFLECT, JOURNAL ABOUT & TALK WITH YOUR FRIENDS

    • Who is doing the work underground, in the part of you that nobody applauds but where your choice matters the most. Are you allowing that work to happen?
    • The wind will not skip you. What will hold you when it comes? Who is holding you now?

    ROOT CHECK

    • Where in your life right now are you focused on the visible stalk - managing how things look, rather than on the roots - who you actually are becoming when no one is watching?
    • Who are the people you are rooted with just like the bamboo groves, the ones whose lives are quietly tangled up with yours, who will help you stand when the wind comes? Or are you standing alone?

  • Episode 1: Join me in the Quest for Character
    2026/09/01
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THIS PODCASTThis podcast exists in that gap, between knowing and becoming, between awareness and action. This is not another feed of tips for optimizing your life. This is a quest - a slow, honest pursuit of character. Character is formed by choice not by chance. It is not a side project to a steadfast life, it is the foundation that holds us for the rest of our lives.Let’s use the acronym Q.U.E.S.T. Every episode starts with a QUOTE. This can be an excerpt from the pages of a book, a single line of poem or a stanza, a passage from Scripture, a thought-provoking social media post, or a song lyric. Quotes by me or by others. Then, we will seek to UNDERSTAND. I’ll offer my short my short ommentary or reflection on that quote we anchored the episode on. We will then attempt to EXPERIENCE it for ourselves by considering its application to our everyday lives grounded in the beauty of our Filipino culture and not as Westernized or as an abstract theory. We will then do a STRENGTH CHECK. We liken character formation to a tree, our recurring closing segment is about checking on the strength of our roots, a.k.a. root check, what is happening underground, in the part of you nobody sees but God. Lastly, we will TAKE ACTION. Of course, any talk about character formation that does not have a call to action is incomplete. We will end each episode with a Call to Action and an Invitation inviting your stories, testimonies, and questions into the next episode.HOW YOU CAN PARTICIPATEThis is not a podcast where you only listen. What are you actually hoping changes in you through this quest? Not what you want to know more of, but who are you hoping to become after you listen to the episodes and is your heart ready for the quest of character formation? What kind of soil represents your heart today? Sit with that honestly even if the answer is not fully formed yet. Half-formed honesty is better than a polished answer you do not believe.Music credit: Breakz Studios© Copyright 2026 | Emmylou F.
