What happens when the tools designed to improve your fitness start getting in the way of actually enjoying it?
For almost my entire fitness journey, I wore a watch. At first, it simply told me how long I had been running. Eventually, it told me everything — my steps, sleep, HRV, calories, heart rate, recovery and training load.
The more I measured, the more I tried to optimise. And somewhere along the way, I realised I wasn't just training anymore. I was measuring my training.
In this episode of The Examined Life, I explore what happened when I finally took the watch off — and what it taught me about measurement, self-trust, authenticity and the difference between analysing an experience and actually experiencing it.
Because not everything meaningful can be turned into a number.
Maybe the best measure of fitness isn't how much you can track, but how much you can feel.
A conversation about fitness, data, letting go of optimisation, and finding your own way to move.
