- Earl was found wearing an orange reflective vest stenciled OGREN COUNTY ROADS that had no invoice or employer record linking it to him.
- Three earlier deaths on the same corridor: Howard Peltz (found March 2016), Patrick Ohlsen (found November 2017, ligature strangulation), Teresa Graves (found August 2018, strangulation).
- Investigator Marlene Chu called Ogren County Roads three times and learned the vest style matched contractor Prentiss Site Services, not directly from Ogren County Roads.
