He became a monk at the age of 5 and continued his monastic studies until the age of 23, when he completed a three year retreat. He subsequently escaped to India in the winter of 2000 and joined his Tibetan community in exile, under His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. He moved to the U.S. 10 years ago.
