Luna is driving the Northway back to her station when she sees a woman standing at the pull-off near the Chapel Pond trailhead—no jacket, no pack, just a floral dress and a small suitcase. Against her better judgment, she stops. The woman is calm, grateful, and asks for a ride to the old Cascade Lodge. Except the lodge burned down in 1960. Luna lets her out where she points, at a clearing that holds only a stone foundation and a rusted gate. Later that night, searching old photographs in the ranger station archives, she finds a group portrait taken at that lodge in 1959. The woman in the floral dress is standing in the back row, smiling.
