  • What True Discipleship Looks Like - with Paul Hassell
    2026/02/11

In this episode of The One Big Thing, I sit down with my friend Paul Hassell for one of the deepest and most challenging conversations I’ve had on this show. We talk honestly about discipleship — not as a church buzzword or an occasional coffee meeting, but as a way of life that actually shapes how we follow Jesus.

Paul shares how being truly discipled later in life changed everything for him, and why many believers feel like something is missing in their faith journey. We challenge the idea of comfortable Christianity and talk about what it means to live with intentionality, risk, and obedience — learning to represent Jesus in the world the way He intended.

This conversation stirred me personally. If you’ve ever felt like your walk with Jesus has stalled, or you love Him but sense there’s more, this episode may help you identify what’s been missing. We talk about spiritual disciplines, living out the Great Commission, and why discipleship is less about information and more about transformation.

My prayer is that this episode doesn’t just encourage you — but challenges you to take your next step with Jesus.

Listen in and ask yourself: what is the One Big Thing God is inviting you into right now?________________________________

  • Grace in the Middle of Chaos – with Grant Redmond
    2026/01/28

In this episode, I sit down with my friend Grant Redmond, a youth pastor, husband, father, basketball coach, and someone who carries a deep love for Jesus. Grant and I go to church together, and as I prayed about who to bring into this new season of the show, his name was one of the first the Lord placed on my heart.

Grant shares the one big thing Jesus is teaching him right now: grace in the middle of chaos. Whether it’s ministry, parenting, coaching, or simply navigating the noise of modern life, Grant has been learning how to walk with the Holy Spirit, slow down, and let grace make the first move — just as Jesus did for us.

We talk honestly about marriage, parenting, health challenges, and how God meets us in the practical decisions as much as the spiritual ones. Grant opens up about supporting his wife through a diabetes diagnosis, inviting community into their healing journey, and learning to trust God instead of worrying his way through uncertainty.

As a youth pastor, Grant also gives powerful insight into raising kids in today’s culture — a world filled with distraction, pressure, anxiety, and constant comparison. He shares the two foundational questions every parent should be asking, simple rhythms that build faith at home, and why presence and persistence matter more to teenagers than perfection.

If you’re a parent, a spouse, someone navigating a chaotic season, or someone needing to be reminded that God works in both the calm and the storm, this conversation will speak right to where you are.

Listen in and be encouraged — God is with you, grace is available, and you still have time to lead your family well.

    2026/01/14

In this episode, I sit down with my good friend Laken Kimsey — a husband, father of three, former ministry leader, and the owner of Laken Lee Creative. Laken has been part of my journey behind the scenes for years, and now I finally get to share his heart, his story, and what Jesus is teaching him in this season.

Laken opens up about stepping out of the comfort of a steady salary and into the unknown of launching his own business — not to build an empire, but to follow the voice of God with full surrender. We talk about what it really means to trust the Lord when you can’t see the entire path, why obedience often feels like fear, and how God uses spouses, community, and quiet journaling moments to guide us one step at a time.

This conversation is honest, practical, and full of faith. If you’re in a season where God is asking you to step out, trust more deeply, or surrender what feels safe, Laken’s story will encourage you to believe that God is in every detail — and He’ll meet you on the other side of your “yes.”

Listen in and be reminded: God is faithful, and His light is always enough for the next step.

  • When Jesus Doesn’t Give You the Blueprint — with Rachel Hale
    2025/12/31

In this episode, I sit down with the incredible Rachel Hale, a singer/songwriter from Nashville and former American Idol finalist who loves Jesus deeply and is learning how to follow Him with courage in the entertainment world.

Rachel opens up about navigating the music industry as a Christian woman — especially the pressure to compromise values around purity, image, and identity. She shares stories of choosing kingdom convictions over cultural expectations, and how the Holy Spirit has taught her to lead even when there’s no blueprint for what God is asking her to do.

We discuss the tension of taking steps of faith when nothing makes sense on paper, and the courage it takes to stay obedient when you feel alone or misunderstood. Rachel also shares powerful moments where God spoke directly to her about her worth, her calling, and why “just because it sells doesn’t mean it’s valuable.”

If you’re in a season where you can’t see the next step, feel pressure to blend in, or wonder if you’re falling behind, Rachel’s story will remind you that God rewards obedience, He honors purity, and He always makes a way where there seems to be none.

Listen in and be encouraged — God is writing a story through your life that only you can carry.

    ________________________________

A longtime member of CeCe Winans’ Nashville Life Church, Rachel led worship and co-wrote “Firm Foundation,” the title track for Selah’s Dove Award–winning album Firm Foundation. She has shared the stage with artists like Peter Frampton, Ricky Skaggs, CeCe Winans, and Jason Crabb, and has opened for Tracy Byrd, Joe Nichols, Jimmie Allen, and more.

Her music and story have reached audiences worldwide through Daystar Television and GOD TV, and her performances include singing the national anthem for the Washington Commanders and the Indianapolis Colts. • What It Truly Means to Be One with Jesus — with Neil Broere
    2025/12/17

In this episode of The One Big Thing, I sit down with Neil Broere — pastor, writer, Bible teacher, and former missionary to Iraq — for one of the most profound conversations we’ve had on this show.

Neil shares what Jesus has been teaching him in this season: union with Christ. We talk about what it really means to be in Him — not just saved by Him, not just working for Him, but living from a place of oneness where everything else flows downstream. This conversation moves deep into obedience, suffering, faith, and what it looks like to trust God even when prayers feel unanswered.

Neil opens up about life on the mission field, raising a family in difficult environments, and how suffering becomes a gateway to intimacy with God rather than a sign of His absence. We wrestle honestly with hard questions: What happens when God doesn’t move the way we expect? How do we hold faith when the miracle doesn’t come? And how does suffering actually shape us into people who can carry the weight of God’s glory?

If you’re in a season of uncertainty, pain, transition, or deep questioning — this episode is for you. It’s a reminder that God is still good, Jesus is still present, and your suffering is never wasted.

Listen in and be encouraged — even if He doesn’t, He is still faithful. And He is still with you.

    _________________________________

Neil Broere is a teaching pastor at Radiant Central Coast in California, an author, and the Global Director of Becoming Love Ministries, where he helps pioneer gospel-centered initiatives around the world.

Before relocating to California in 2022, Neil and his wife, Lindsey, served as missionaries in Iraq for six years alongside their four children. That season deeply shaped their faith and reinforced their conviction that Jesus is exactly who He says He is — and that a life of obedience can radically transform individuals and families.

Neil is the author of Obedience, Suffering, & Reward, which reached #1 on Amazon’s Ecclesiology list and continues to rank among the top titles in the category. His upcoming book, LIMINAL: The Delicate Space Between Breaths, is scheduled for release in Spring 2026.

Through his weekly devotional Between Sundays, Neil shares reflections drawn from Scripture and life experience, focusing on themes such as identity in Christ, the power of the gospel, God’s design for the church, the kingdom of God, suffering and wilderness seasons, and the beauty of communion.
