  • Dr. Robert Kiltz on Faith, Fertility, and the Power of Mindset
    2025/09/10

In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Robert Kiltz, the founder and director of CNY Fertility, to talk about faith, mindset, and medicine. Dr. Kiltz’s story is incredible—he went from a tough childhood in Los Angeles, even spending time in a gang, to becoming one of the leading fertility specialists in the country.

What stood out to me in our conversation is how he sees hardship not as something to avoid, but as the very thing that shapes us into who we’re meant to be. He shares openly about the role of faith in God, the power of mindset, and how he weaves spirituality, nutrition, and lifestyle into his practice.

This conversation left me both inspired and challenged. If you’ve ever faced setbacks, wrestled with questions about faith, or wondered how to keep moving forward when life feels hard, I think Dr. Kiltz’s story and wisdom will encourage you. For anyone walking through infertility, his insights will also bring fresh hope and perspective.

    Show Highlights:

    • Why he believes hardship is essential for growth—and how to reframe your challenges as blessings.
    • How nutrition and lifestyle changes, including his adoption of the carnivore diet, have transformed his life and practice.
    • The unique way CNY Fertility integrates medicine, spirituality, and holistic practices to support families.
    • Powerful stories of hope from couples who found healing and success against the odds.
    • The reminder that your story isn’t over—even when life takes unexpected turns like job loss, setbacks, or infertility struggles.

  • Morgan Vance on Rebuilding After Rock Bottom
    2025/07/30

This episode is one of those conversations that stays with you long after it ends. I sat down with my friend Morgan Vance, Executive Director of the Pat Summitt Foundation, and we talked about something that so many of us face but often feel alone in: what happens after you hit rock bottom?

Morgan opens up about walking through a painful divorce, the loneliness that followed, and the moment she found herself on her knees in her parents’ backyard, realizing she couldn’t do it on her own. But that wasn’t the end of her story — it was the beginning of a new one.

She shares how therapy, faith, and a simple bag of chips (yes, really) helped her rediscover joy and reclaim her identity. Her “one big thing”? That there’s always a reason to praise — even in the middle of the mess.

If you’re in a hard season right now — whether it’s divorce, depression, anxiety, or just feeling stuck — I want you to know you’re not alone. Morgan’s story is a reminder that healing is possible, joy is real, and sometimes the smallest moments can be the most powerful.

We also talk about the incredible work she’s doing through the Pat Summitt Foundation to support families impacted by Alzheimer’s, and how you can get connected if that’s part of your journey too.

  • Justin Masterson on Emotional Maturity, Leadership, and Living with Intention
    2025/07/16

In this episode of The One Big Thing, I had the privilege of sitting down with former MLB pitcher and current high school coach Justin Masterson. You might know him from his days on the mound with the Red Sox, but what really struck me in our conversation was his heart for people and his deep insights on emotional maturity.

We talked about what it means to grow—not just as a leader or athlete, but as a human being. Justin shared how his definition of maturity has evolved into the ability to handle emotions well, especially in the face of hardship. Whether he's coaching teenagers, navigating marriage, or serving in his community, he’s learned that staying relational and grounded is key.

In this episode, we dive into:

    • The emotional weight athletes carry behind the scenes
    • How to lead with empathy and humility in high-pressure environments
    • Practical tools like the “CAKE” acronym and quieting techniques to regulate emotions
    • Why identity and belonging are essential for real transformation
    • Honest stories of failure, forgiveness, and fatherhood

I even share a personal story about a moment I blew it as a dad—and what it taught me about grace, humility, and the power of saying “I’m sorry.”

If you’re someone who wants to grow in emotional intelligence, lead with more compassion, or just be a better version of yourself, this episode is for you. We’re not aiming for perfection—just progress.

  • General Stan McChrystal on the Importance of Your Character
    2025/07/02

On this episode of The One Big Thing, I had the honor of sitting down with General Stanley McChrystal. You may know him as one of the most respected military leaders of our time, but in our conversation, we focused less on medals and missions and more on the thing that truly defines a life: character.

We talked about what it means to be a father, a grandfather, and a human being trying to live out your values in a complicated world. Stan shares how character isn't something we inherit—it's something we choose. And we don't just choose it once—we choose it daily, especially in the hard moments when no one else is watching.

    We also got into:

    • Why your example matters more than your achievements
    • How to hold fast to who you are—even when the world feels loud, divided, and chaotic
    • What Stan learned from leading soldiers in war and grandkids in peacetime
    • How his book On Character: Choices That Define a Life came to be (and why it might help you rethink your own convictions)

Whether you're a parent, a leader, or someone simply trying to do the next right thing, I think this episode will meet you right where you are. This conversation reminded me that we all have a say in the kind of person we become—and that it’s never too late to start making better choices.

🧠 Your one big thing today? Character isn’t what you say—it’s who you are when no one’s looking. And you own that.
