Fully 80 years ago, as millions of soldiers returned home from fighting fascism in World War II, a quiet but powerful shift began spreading through American culture. America's biggest entertainers started using their massive platforms to demand a more inclusive, tolerant society.

In this video, we analyze rare 1946 radio broadcasts from Jack Benny, Frank Sinatra, and Gene Kelly on "American Brotherhood" and tolerance. We also look at Sinatra’s Academy Award-winning public domain short film, "The House I Live In."

While the majority of Americans still hold these values close today, the resurgence of intolerance from some groups shows that progress is never guaranteed. To move forward, we must look back at the lessons we were supposed to learn 80 years ago.
