- Mark Duncan presented himself as an elder care consultant and handyman and was inside Howard’s house four to five times each week for sixteen months.
- Patrice, Howard’s daughter, noticed changes in his answers in 2018 and reported concerns to county services; a neighbor logged repeated visits and unplugged phone lines.
- Adult Protective Services investigator Steven Romano collected the notebook and confronted the puzzle of a staged scene and $214,000 that had already moved out of Howard’s life.
