概要

The Normal Sport Show is our attempt to bring about some order to the weirdest sport in the world. A game in which crocodiles traipse the playing field on a semi-regular basis. A game in which if you don’t keep your own statistics (and everyone else’s) correctly, you’re ejected from the event. A game in which pool noodles are used as practice props, and nobody blinks an eye.

We take a few of these oddities and try to juxtapose them with the beauty of the game to create a world that will hopefully make you chuckle but that may also make you more thoughtful.

    …but there’s actually a lot happening.

Kyle Porter and Hayden Martin break down the biggest stories in the game this week, including:
    • Rory McIlroy turning 37 and what his all-time ceiling really is
    • The Open Championship heading back to Lytham in 2028—and what that says about golf’s future
    • The growing tension between equipment and historic courses like St Andrews Links
    • A wild situation unfolding around public golf in Washington D.C.
    • And why Nelly Korda might be putting together one of the most dominant seasons in modern golf
Plus: random baseball nostalgia, Cobra gear talk, and why golf’s biggest debates never seem to go away.

  • LIV loses funding and other stories we're following this week – Episode #26
    2026/04/30
There’s “nothing going on” in golf right now…
    …except total chaos.

Kyle Porter and Hayden Martin break down one of the wildest news cycles in recent golf history—from the future of LIV Golf to the PGA Tour’s ongoing identity crisis, and why the current schedule just isn’t working. Plus:
    • Why LIV losing funding changes everything (or maybe nothing)
    • What happens next for stars like Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm
    • The PGA Tour’s biggest problem right now
    • Why major season still feels… off
    • And a deep dive on rising amateur star Jackson Koivun
It’s messy. It’s complicated. And it’s probably just getting started.

  • The golfers whose major totals fail to match their talent level – Episode #25
    2026/04/28
Some golfers just don’t make sense on paper.

Kyle Porter is joined by Shane Bacon to draft the players whose major championship totals don’t match how good they actually were—for better or worse. They discuss:
    • Why Greg Norman might be the ultimate example
    • The painful near-misses of Louis Oosthuizen
    • How Sergio Garcia and Justin Rose ended up with just one major
    • The strange legacy math of Vijay Singh and Phil Mickelson
    • Why Adam Scott feels like he should have more
Plus, a broader conversation about how thin the margins are in major championships—and how a single shot can change a career forever.
