  • The Expansion Trap: Why Success Never Feels Like Enough EP 147
    2026/08/27
Episode GuideThe Expansion Trap: Why Success Never Feels Like EnoughYou hit the goal. You finished the project. You got the promotion, lost the weight, earned the degree, built the thing, or finally reached the milestone you had been chasing. It felt good for about half a second. Then the bar moved.A new target appeared. Yesterday’s achievement became today’s baseline, and instead of arriving, your mind immediately asked, “What’s next?”In this episode of The New Ashla Podcast, Michael Perry and Justin Gates explore what Michael calls “the expansion trap,” the cycle where growth, ambition, and productivity become so constant that we never actually allow ourselves to experience what we have accomplished. The problem is not wanting more. Human beings are built to grow, learn, create, and expand. The problem begins when we never complete the cycle. We reach, achieve, and immediately reach again without giving ourselves the space to integrate what the experience required of us, what it taught us, and who we became along the way.Michael gets especially personal about how this has shown up in his own life. After years of using gaming, television, and distraction to escape difficult feelings, he began recognizing that relentless productivity can sometimes become a more socially acceptable version of the same mechanism. Building, creating, learning, and accomplishing can all be genuinely meaningful while still becoming a way to avoid being present with ourselves.Justin connects this pattern to the Path of Ashla and several Axioms of Light, especially the importance of allowing a lull, accepting where we are, and recognizing that contentment and growth are not enemies. You can want more without rejecting what already exists. You can celebrate an accomplishment without becoming complacent. You can rest without becoming stagnant. And sometimes the healthiest thing you can do before your next takeoff is actually learn how to land.In this episode• Why reaching a goal can immediately create another goal instead of satisfaction• How achievements quietly become your new baseline• Why ambitious people often confuse contentment with stagnation• The difference between healthy expansion and using productivity as an escape• How intellectualizing emotions can keep us disconnected from actually feeling them• Why constantly moving the goalpost can prevent you from building real confidence in your own capabilities• The importance of completing the cycle of beginning, effort, completion, rest, integration, and beginning again• How Justin’s Axioms of Light apply differently depending on where you are in your life• Why endings sometimes need to remain endings long enough for something new to genuinely begin• How appreciation and ambition can exist at the same timeKey takeaways• Growth is not the problem. The inability to arrive is.• When every achievement immediately becomes the new minimum, you lose the opportunity to internalize evidence of your own capability.• Productivity can be meaningful and still function as an escape. Radical honesty means being willing to examine both truths at once.• Contentment does not require giving up ambition. You can appreciate where you are while still choosing where you want to go.• Integration matters as much as accumulation. The lessons, skills, resilience, and identity built through an experience need space to settle.• An ending deserves to become an ending before it becomes the foundation of another beginning.KeywordsKeywords: expansion trap, moving goalposts, personal growth, self worth, ambition, productivity, burnout, contentment, self acceptance, achievement, nervous system, radical honesty, emotional avoidance, personal development, New Ashla PodcastConnectMichael Perryhttps://www.facebook.com/michael.perry.18400700/Justin Gateshttps://www.facebook.com/JustinVGatesTikTokhttps://www.tiktok.com/@justinvgatesNew Ashlahttps://newashla.com

  • Wake Up From the Lie: Breaking the Spell of False Beliefs EP 146

In this episode of The New Ashla Podcast, Justin V. Gates and Michael Perry explore how false beliefs shape identity, limit potential, and quietly control the way we see ourselves, our relationships, our worth, and what we believe is possible.

Some of the limits we live under were never truly ours. Someone said something. Something happened. We failed once. We were rejected, judged, compared, shamed, criticized, or told who we were before we understood who we could become. Over time, the suggestion became belief. The belief became identity. The identity became a prison.

Drawing from the teachings of Ashla, Justin and Michael discuss what it means to “wake up from the lie” and de-hypnotize yourself from limiting beliefs that were planted through pain, conditioning, comparison, trauma, rejection, failure, family systems, culture, religion, or repeated suggestion.

This conversation explores how false beliefs become a trance. A lie does not have to be true to shape your life. It only has to be believed deeply enough. Once accepted, the belief becomes a lens through which life is interpreted. A person may begin acting in ways that confirm the belief, not because the belief is true, but because the belief is quietly guiding perception, behavior, confidence, and self-image.

Through Ashla, this becomes the sacred work of recognition. Before you can break free of negative or improper influences, you must first recognize them. The Light of awareness reveals the lie so the greater self can stop bowing to it.

Justin and Michael also explore how false beliefs block expression. Many people do not lack ability. They are living under a self-image that refuses permission. A person may have intelligence, creativity, leadership, strength, love, or deep capacity within them, but the old belief says, “That is not for you.” Over time, “I can’t” becomes more than a thought. It becomes an inner command.

The episode also examines how comparison creates false standards. Modern life constantly invites us to compare our real path to someone else’s curated image. Highlight reels, filtered bodies, success clips, spiritual performance, and artificial standards can make people feel behind, broken, inadequate, or unworthy. But someone else’s path is not the measure of your soul.

The deeper work is not only recognizing the lie, but replacing it with lived truth. Removing a false belief is not enough. A truer belief must be cultivated, repeated, and embodied through action. Affirmations matter, but the deeper mind also needs evidence. One honest sentence, one wise decision, one completed task, one act of courage, one boundary, one moment of self-respect can begin to teach the inner world that the old story is not the only story.

This episode is for anyone who has struggled with limiting beliefs, low self-worth, self-doubt, comparison, fear of failure, imposter syndrome, negative self-image, inherited conditioning, or the feeling that they are living beneath their true capacity.

  • You Are the Key: Stop Looking Outside for What Begins Within EP 145
    2026/08/18

    Get the Episode Companion here!

In this episode of The New Ashla Podcast, Justin V. Gates and Michael Perry explore one of the most powerful truths in spiritual growth and self-mastery: you are the key.

So many people spend their lives searching outside themselves for the thing that will finally unlock their peace, purpose, healing, confidence, identity, or connection to the Divine. They search for the right teacher, the right system, the right method, the right sign, the right breakthrough, or the right external solution. But what if the key was never outside of you?

Drawing from Three Magic Words, self-image work, and the teachings of Ashla, this conversation looks at the deeper Self beneath the masks, roles, labels, wounds, fears, and conditioned identities we have learned to defend. You are not merely your name, job, body, past, personality, or pain. Beneath all of that is the aware Self, the “I am” within you, the part capable of recognizing truth, choosing alignment, and walking in right relationship with the Force.

Through Ashla, this becomes the sacred work of awareness. The outer path matters, but no teacher, book, system, or guide can walk the path for you. They can point. They can support. They can awaken something within you. But the door opens from the inside.

Justin and Michael explore how the self-image becomes the lock, how old beliefs and false identities keep people trapped, and how awareness begins to turn the key. The listener is invited to stop searching endlessly outside themselves and begin returning to the inner temple, where truth, Light, and the greater self are waiting to be recognized and embodied.

You are not finding the key.

You are remembering that you are the key.

Know thyself. Step into awareness. Step into truth.
