Well hey there Music Babies.

I am SO excited for you to hear this very special episode of The Music Dad Podcast - It is I think, a thing of wonder.

Some time ago I bumped into 'Beached Brass' on Hove seafront and could not believe how joyful their sound was. I asked band leader Gabriel if he would be up for a podcast chat and maybe joining me for a song or two in a rehearsal room.

A few days later I found myself in the room I had booked for 2 of us with a 6 piece Jazz band! One or two of whom were BRAND new to the line-up. Oh and a big dog called Jovis who attends all jams and gigs at all time. What happened next was something halfway between bonkers and magical.

Gabriel is a bit of a character to say the least, and I wish to point out that his views on what constitutes music and what doesn't are his own.

This mad day ended with me singing live in a Jazz club with top tier musicians still in my jogging bottoms and with a grease stain near my nipple.

it is exactly the sort of strange, cultural adventure that Music Dad lives for.

Hello and welcome to the first episode of The Music Dad Podcast ever to appear on its own feed. Over the last couple of years I have been adding occasional episodes of me in Music Dad mode to the feed of my other podcast 'Finding Nico', but now Music Dad is growing as a project I wanted to put the episodes together in once place.

This episode was recorded when Ian from Oasis Supernova and myself drove from Tavistock to Southampton between amazing gig nights in summer 2025. And is a great example to anyone listening of how even someone with a full time job can make a music project come to life and bear fruit. Supernova are a big old production now, and in fact I am supporting them as Stupid Hearts Club at Londons Scala in front of around 800 people in November.

Not bad for two herberts (Sorry Ian) who hadn't done music for ages a few years ago.

We chat about getting off your arse and being creative with how to make your life interesting. And even increase the ways in which you make a living! And Music Dad will have some of that.

I think it's a really cool chat we had and I hope you love it. Especially if you have got an inkling to get out and play music or do whatever project you suspect makes you happy. I salute Ian and the Supernova boys who have taken a vision of what a tribute night could be and literally made it happen, cos that's what Oasis told us you've gotta do.
