BBQ on the River brings plenty of fun and festivities. A McCracken County coalition is making sure everyone gets home safely. And a four-vehicle collision Thursday sent one person to an out-of-state hospital and injured three others.

BBQ on the River will officially kick off at 10 a.m. Thursday, and the festival’s food vendors are making final preparations. And the Kentucky Career Center will host a larger scale job fair at the McCracken County Public Library from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

CCSO obtained an arrest warrant for 32-year-old Jerald Swetland of Princeton for a charge of first degree assault following his alleged involvement in the Sunday incident. And the DOE Paducah Site will conduct its annual emergency management exercise Wednesday.

Betty Akamani will be held at the Jackson County jail pending her murder trial following her initial appearance in court Monday afternoon. BBQ on the River is set to kick off over the weekend in downtown Paducah with enhanced safety measures.

For more than 20 years, the Paducah Area Chamber of Commerce has organized a D.C. Fly-In aimed at seeking federal support and money for projects back home; And over 60 players showed up for a golf scramble in Kevil, raising funds to benefit the children of Stephanie Stacey, a victim of domestic violence who was killed in December 2025.

Programs were approved for Hendron Lone Oak and Lone Oak Elementary Schools and Reidland Intermediate School. The board previously voted 4-1 in September 2025 to approve LifeWise for Lone Oak Intermediate. With the holiday months comes a busy time for two Paducah nonprofits. During the fourth quarter of the year, nonprofits work to support families through both Thanksgiving and Christmas.

WPSD will host a Super Shredder event in Calvert City Thursday. And the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees has filed a lawsuit representing employees at Choate Mental Health and Development Center.

Mercy Health will hold a blood drive from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16. And the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet held a public information meeting Tuesday to provide updates on the Rebuild Mayfield project, which is set to rebuild roughly two-and-a-half miles of key roadways in the city’s downtown.
