  • The Cost of More | When Working Hard Costs Too Much
    2026/08/31

How much is “more” costing you?

For much of my career, I worked two jobs my regular shifts and a significant amount of overtime. There were years when I worked more than 1,000 hours of overtime. Early in my marriage, the extra money helped us get ahead, and I genuinely loved working.

But over time, I learned something I wish I had understood much earlier:

Every hour we give to one thing is an hour we cannot give to something else.

Working hard is not the problem. Ambition is not the problem. Providing for your family is not the problem.

The question is whether the life we are working so hard to build leaves us enough time to actually live it.

In this episode, I reflect honestly on the cost of always wanting more: more money, more success, more responsibility, more productivity, and how those pursuits can quietly take time away from the people and things that matter most.

Because there will always be another opportunity, another project, another shift, and another reason to stay busy.

But there will not always be another opportunity to experience the moment you are in right now.

    This week, consider one question:

What is the “more” in your life right now, and what is it costing you?

Sometimes the hardest lesson is learning that there is a difference between building a life...

    and actually living it.

  • When the Plan Changes | Adaptability, Leadership & Personal Growth
    2026/08/24

What do you do when life does not go according to plan?

Whether it is a career change, a new opportunity, an unexpected setback, or simply a season of uncertainty, life has a way of changing the path we expected to take.

In this episode of The Monday Message, Dan Dillon reflects on one of the biggest transitions of his life—moving across the country after more than three decades of public service—and the lessons he learned about adaptability, humility, and embracing change.

Change is rarely comfortable, but it often becomes the catalyst for growth. The question is not whether our plans will change. They will. The real question is how we respond when they do.

This conversation is for anyone navigating change in their career, family, relationships, or personal life, and serves as a reminder that while our circumstances may change, our character and purpose do not have to.

    This week's reflection:

What is this season trying to teach me?

  • The Courage to Move Beyond the Past | Leadership, Resilience & Personal Growth
    2026/08/17

    Some experiences change us forever.

The real question is whether we allow them to define us.

In this episode of The Monday Message, Dan Dillon shares one of the most difficult experiences of his career and the lesson it taught him about leadership, resilience, and learning to move forward. After responding to a tragic illegal daycare fire, the emotional weight of the incident followed him long after the emergency ended. During the after-action review, unprocessed grief influenced his response to leadership, resulting in consequences that affected his career and ultimately changed the way he viewed growth, accountability, and healing.

This episode is not about forgetting the past. It is about learning from it without allowing it to determine your future.

Whether you are a first responder, leader, parent, coach, or someone navigating life's challenges, this conversation is a reminder that progress is rarely dramatic. It is built one intentional step at a time.

New episodes every Monday. Start your week with a few minutes of reflection on leadership, character, resilience, and purposeful living.
