My name is Rabbi Matt Schneeweiss, and this is the hub for all of my shiurim (classes) on Sefer Mishlei, a.k.a. The Book of Proverbs! Generally speaking we will follow the approach to Mishlei outlined by Saadia Gaon who views Mishlei as a guide for intelligent decision-making in everyday life with the goal of maximizing long-term pleasure and minimizing long-term pain. Each shiur will typically focus on one pasuk (verse), which we will attempt to analyze on our own before turning to the meforshim (commentators).     Length: 45 minutes
    Synopsis: This morning (9/17/26), in our Morning Mishlei shiur, we began with a review of yesterday's pasuk and the approaches that were suggested in shiur and a few sent after shiur. We then spent most of our time on the Meiri's surprising approach, followed by R' Sheishes ben Yitzchak Gerondi's innovative approach. Great ideas all around!

    Mishlei 26:3 - A Rod for the Back of Fools (Part 1)

    שׁוֹט לַסּוּס מֶתֶג לַחֲמוֹר וְשֵׁבֶט לְגֵו כְּסִילִים:

    Length: 46 minutes
    Synopsis: This morning (9/16/26), in our Morning Mishlei shiur, we began what appears to be a local cluster of pesukim about how to deal with ksilim (Mishleic fools). Today's pasuk seems to be part of a subgenre within Mishlei about the proper place of corporal punishment. Some might be turned off to that idea, but I believe we discovered an approach that makes it more palatable. You tell me!

    כַּצִּפּוֹר לָנוּד כַּדְּרוֹר לָעוּף כֵּן קִלְלַת חִנָּם [לוֹ] (לא) תָבֹא:

    Synopsis: This morning (9/10/26), in our Morning Mishlei shiur, we continued our analysis of yesterday's riddle-pasuk. We began by reviewing what we covered yesterday and soliciting any new approaches or insights from the members of the shiur. We then learned the commentaries of Metzudas David, Meiri, and R' Sheishes ben Yitzchak Gerondi. Much of what they said overlapped with (or was predicated on) our own ideas, which is a good sign, but we still managed to come away with new insights!
