- The matchbook contained eleven unused matches and had the number "14" written in pencil on the inner flap.
- Lori Allen, age 23, was found strangled in Unit Fourteen; time of death estimated between 11:00 PM on August 13 and 2:00 AM on August 14.
- Lori's purse was untouched with $14 inside and her return bus ticket; no signs of forced entry at door or window.
