• Episode 131 How Certain Parenting Patterns Can Lead to Narcissistic Traits (And What To Do About It) #narcissism
    2026/05/03
Narcissism is often misunderstood—and many parents worry about whether they’re getting it “right.” In this episode of Masterful Parenting, we explore how certain parenting patterns can shape a child’s sense of self, sometimes contributing to narcissistic traits rooted in insecurity, disconnection, and unmet emotional needs. This is not about blame. It’s about awareness. Many of these patterns are subtle and often come from what we experienced in our own childhoods. When we begin to understand them, we gain the power to shift how we show up for our children. You’ll learn the difference between healthy confidence and narcissistic traits, how both overindulgence and emotional disconnection can impact your child’s development, and what children actually need to build a secure, resilient identity. Most importantly, this episode will guide you in how to parent with intention—balancing connection, boundaries, and emotional attunement—so your child feels deeply valued without relying on external validation. 💡 Key Takeaways Narcissistic traits often develop as protection, not intention. Children need to feel seen and accepted—not just praised or corrected Both overindulgence and emotional disconnection can impact identity Connection, consistency, and boundaries create emotional safety You don’t need perfect parenting—just conscious, responsive parenting 🤔 Reflection Questions Do I unintentionally tie my child’s worth to behavior or achievement? How do I respond to my child’s emotions—do I dismiss or connect? Am I raising my child to be impressive, or to be secure in who they are? How comfortable am I with my child’s discomfort? Awareness isn’t about guilt—it’s about growth. When we understand the patterns that shape our children, we can choose to parent in ways that build true confidence, connection, and emotional security. **************************************************************************************** Anne Alvares is a parent coach, author, educator, and the founder of the Masterful Parenting Program, known for helping families build stronger, healthier relationships through relational parenting and healing from childhood wounds. • Ep. 129 How Childhood Affects the World (Featuring Research by Sven Fuchs) #childhoodtrauma
    2026/04/19
What if the struggles we see in the world today… don’t start in adulthood—but in childhood? Based on the research of Sven Fuchs.THE CHILDHOOD ORIGINS OF POLITICAL VIOLENCE AND EXTREMISM, this powerful and eye-opening episode, we’re exploring the deeper truth behind human behavior, emotional pain, and even societal challenges: 👉 childhood experiences shape everything. From the way we respond in relationships… to how we parent… to patterns we see in mental health, disconnection, and even conflict— it all traces back to what we experienced (or didn’t receive) as children. This episode will help you understand: ✨ How unmet emotional needs in childhood shape our beliefs, identity, and behavior ✨ Why triggers in parenting are often rooted in our own past ✨ The connection between unhealed pain and the challenges we see in the world today ✨ Why awareness—not blame—is the key to breaking generational cycles ✨ How healing yourself doesn’t just change your life—it impacts future generations This is more than a parenting conversation. It’s a conversation about healing, responsibility, and the kind of world we want to create. Because when we begin to understand childhood differently… we begin to show up differently— in our homes, our relationships, and in the world. 🎧 If you’ve ever wondered why things feel so hard sometimes—this episode will connect the dots in a way that is both empowering and deeply validating. 💛 CTA: If you’re ready to stop reacting, understand your triggers, and create a more connected relationship with your child, join my Triggered to Regulated Reset. 📩 DM me RESET or visit the link in my bio to get started. • Episode 128 How We Make Our Children Feel Like A Burden (Without Realizing It)
    2026/04/12
What if the words we say in passing… are shaping how our children see themselves? In this powerful episode, we’re diving into the subtle, often unconscious ways we can make our kids feel like a burden—without ever intending to. From talking about how expensive things are… To expressing how exhausted and overwhelmed we feel… To reminding them of “everything we do for them”… These moments may seem harmless—but to a child, they can quietly translate into: 👉 “I’m too much” 👉 “I’m a problem” 👉 “I shouldn’t need so much” And those beliefs don’t stay in childhood—they follow them into adulthood. But here’s the truth: This isn’t about blame. It’s about awareness. So often, these patterns are rooted in our own unhealed childhood wounds—the times we felt like a burden ourselves. In this episode, I’ll walk you through: ✨ The hidden ways we unintentionally project burden onto our kids ✨ Why this pattern is deeply connected to our own past ✨ The long-term impact on your child’s identity and self-worth ✨ How to shift from guilt and overwhelm → to connection and safety ✨ What to say and do instead (practical, real-life tools) This is an invitation to break the cycle—with compassion, not shame. 🎧 If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed in parenting… this episode will meet you there—and show you a new way forward. 💛 CTA: If you’re ready to move from reacting to connecting, join my Triggered to Regulated Reset—a powerful experience to help you regulate your nervous system and show up as the parent you truly want to be. 📩 DM me RESET or check the link in my bio to get started. Why Adult Children Cut Off Their Parents (And How to Repair the Relationship Before It’s Too Late) Why do adult children distance themselves from their parents? • Practical ways to support your teen without pushing them away

If you’ve ever worried about your teen’s self-esteem, independence, or sense of self—this episode will give you a new lens and practical tools to show up differently.

For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Anne Alvares. I came from childhood pain. I suffered abuse, controlling parents, and was parentified. My healing journey began almost 30 years ago when I first told my story. When I became a mother, I was determined to heal and not repeat the patterns of my childhood in my own parenting with my children. Now, I teach parents how to foster healthy relationships with their kids. When we uncover our childhood story and become aware of our triggers, we can begin to heal and change. When we do this, our children thrive and we can feel good about our parenting.

I have over 17 years of experience working with teens and their families as a high school counsellor and I'm the mom of two so I understand the challenges. I teach parents relational parenting so you can foster healthy relationships with your children.

  • Ep. 124 Why You Keep Reacting To Your Child (Even When You Don't Want To) #parentingtriggers #childhoodggers
    2026/03/15
Why do parents react to their children even when they don’t want to? In this episode of the Masterful Parenting Podcast, Anne Alvares explains why parenting reactions often come from nervous system activation rather than conscious choice. When children push boundaries, talk back, or refuse to listen, parents can quickly shift into fight-or-flight responses that lead to yelling, frustration, and guilt. Anne shares how childhood experiences shape parenting triggers and explains the difference between reacting and responding to your child. She also introduces a simple pause method that helps parents regulate their emotions and respond with intention instead of reacting in the heat of the moment. If you want to stop yelling, reduce power struggles, and create a calmer relationship with your child, this episode will give you practical tools to start changing the pattern. What You’ll Learn in This Episode • Why parents react to their children even when they know better • How your nervous system influences your parenting responses • The connection between childhood experiences and parenting triggers • The difference between reacting and responding to your child • How the pause method can help you stay calm during difficult moments • Why emotional regulation is one of the most important parenting skills • How responding instead of reacting strengthens connection with your child Key Takeaway Parenting isn’t about being perfect. It’s about learning how to pause long enough to choose a response instead of letting your nervous system take over. When parents learn to regulate themselves first, they create a calmer home and help their children learn emotional regulation too.
