Stretching over 4 kilometres (2.5 miles) across a remote desert plateau, this enormous geoglyph appeared without warning in 1998. Visible only from the air!

How was something this enormous carved into one of the most isolated parts of Australia without anyone noticing? Was it an elaborate art project? A military prank? The work of an eccentric artist? Or is there another explanation entirely?
