My grandfather, my father, and my uncle were strong in every way men are taught to be strong. Each of them died before their time. I created this show for the men I couldn't save, and the ones we still can. The Male Quotient exists to help Black men live long, healthy lives.

Hosted by physician Dr. Leo Moore, this is Black men's health, measured differently. Every week, we look honestly at the things that quietly shape how long and how well Black men live, and at the care most men were never taught to ask for. No shame, no lectures, just real information you can act on.

The idea behind the name is simple. A man is not a single number. Mind, body, and soul all factor in, and most of us were only ever taught to pay attention to the strength and resilience of our bodies. Each episode leaves you one percent wiser and gives you one concrete move to make. You are more than the sum of your parts.

  • Movement is Medicine
    2026/08/26

What if a treatment worked about as well as your blood pressure medication, and beat the drugs for stroke recovery? It exists. It is movement, and almost no one uses the full dose.

In this episode, Dr. Leo reframes exercise as what it actually is: medicine. He walks through what happens inside your body when you move, how your muscles pull sugar from your blood without needing insulin, how your heart grows stronger, how movement also protects you from the neck up, not just the neck down, and why the strength that keeps you independent is available at any age.

  • The Medicine on Our Plate
    2026/08/19

When most men picture eating healthy, they picture a sad plate. Bland vegetables, dry chicken, and a meal that leaves you hungry an hour later. In this episode, Dr. Leo makes the case that some of the healthiest eating on earth traces right back through our own history, and that it was never bland and never boring.

This is the nutrition pillar of lifestyle medicine, and it starts with what is already on our tables. Collard greens, black-eyed peas, sweet potatoes, and okra are not just side dishes. They are packed with the fiber, vitamins, and minerals that steady your blood sugar, protect your heart, and quietly do the work of half the supplement aisle.

From there, Dr. Leo puts on the white coat and walks through the evidence. How plants help your blood vessels relax. What the research actually shows about the DASH, Mediterranean, and plant-based ways of eating, and the trials that put food up against medication and watched it hold its own.

There is no single right way to eat. The move this week is simple: get to know the three approaches, take an honest look at how you already eat, and find the one you could actually see yourself living with a year from now.

  • The Medicine You Already Have
    2026/08/12

Most of what determines how long you live is not in a pharmacy. It is in six things you do every day. In this episode, Dr. Leo introduces lifestyle medicine, the field he is board-certified in, and the six pillars that shape the course of a man's life: nutrition, movement, sleep, stress, avoiding risky substances, and connection.

We tend to be reactive with our health. We wait until something breaks, then we scramble to fix it. This episode is about the other kind of medicine, the proactive kind, the kind that does not require a prescription, a referral, or anyone's permission. As much as eighty percent of chronic disease and early death could be prevented, and Black men have the most to gain from the one medicine that has been in our hands the whole time.

If the list of six feels like a lot, here is the move: do not try to fix all six at once. Pick the one that is your weak spot, and start there. One percent better, every day.

This is the episode that turns the corner of the season. Everything ahead builds on it.
