It separates Hunnicutt’s account from a different report by a young Civil Defense volunteer who said he saw four small figures beneath a bridge. It then turns to patrolmen Ray Shockey and Mark Mathews, whose nineteen seventy-two reports helped create the modern Frogman image.

It is a chain of witness accounts, newspaper coverage, a witness-guided drawing, an artist’s conception, dark twenty sixteen images supplied by Sam Jacobs, and one major contradiction. A nineteen seventy-two newspaper said an animal shot by Mathews entered the river. In twenty sixteen, Mathews said he recovered it and identified it as a tailless iguana.
