The Longwave Home is a home frequency in a fractured era — a refuge of story, sound, and human connection broadcasting from the foothills of Northern California.


Part radio album, part community chronicle, part late-night companion, each episode explores a single humanitarian theme and follows it wherever the signal leads: into music, into memory, into conversations with neighbors, into small acts of courage, into the long echo of history, and into the lives we’re all trying to make sense of.


Rooted in Gold Country, but resonating far beyond it, Longwave is built from the voices that live here — the farmers, artists, elders, fire survivors, dreamers, activists, wanderers, and working folk who give this place its pulse. It’s a listener-supported, commercial-free broadcast stitched together from interviews, performance, field recordings, narrative vignettes, archival scraps, and the kind of unexpected moments you can only catch when you’re listening closely.


This is not a podcast.

    A river floods. A town begins to rebuild.


    In the aftermath, the people of Free River reckon with loss, uncertainty, change, and the stubborn human tendency to carry on. Along the way, we hear from people rebuilding their lives after disaster, recovering from addiction, caring for loved ones, pursuing social change, and facing the ordinary hardships that come with being human.


    Some challenges are personal. Others belong to families, communities, and even nations. Some arrive without warning. Others unfold over years. Yet beneath them all is the same enduring question: What happens after the crisis passes?


    Through stories, conversations, music, and reflection, The Longwave Home explores the many ways people persist, adapt, rebuild, and continue forward.

    In Episode Five of The Longwave Home, we step right up to the one and only Faire of Fairness as it rolls into Free River for a strange and reflective evening examining one of humanity’s oldest and slipperiest questions: What is fairness, anyway?
    Through carnival tents, community voices, quiet confessions, and unsettling realizations, this transmission explores fairness in money, power, relationships, morality, health, luck, and the systems we build to make sense of them all. Along the way, listeners from across Nevada County weigh in with their own experiences, contradictions, and hard-earned truths.
    Some fairness can be shaped. Some may never be fully understood. And some may not exist at all.Fair enough?
