  • You Don’t Miss Gambling. You Miss the Rush.
    2026/09/22

Do you actually miss gambling, or do you miss the rush it gave you?

Football season can be one of the hardest times of year for anyone struggling with sports betting or gambling addiction. The games are everywhere, but so are the odds, parlays, player props, live bets, betting apps, prediction markets, and constant talk about the next “lock.”

In this episode of The Last Bet, Ryan Stewart gets real about something he had to recognize in his own gambling recovery: he didn’t actually miss gambling. He missed the action, anticipation, uncertainty, and rush.

After years of attaching betting to sports, simply watching a football game could feel boring. Gambling had conditioned him to believe the game itself wasn’t enough. There needed to be money riding on it.

Ryan breaks down the cycle that keeps so many sports bettors trapped:

    • Why winning can make you want to gamble again
    • Why losing can make you want to gamble again
    • How betting changes the way you experience sports
    • Why normal life can initially feel “boring” after gambling
    • How nostalgia can make you remember the rush while forgetting the consequences
    • Why gambling urges don’t have to become gambling actions
    • How to protect your recovery during football season
    • What it feels like to finally watch sports without a point spread controlling your mood

One of the biggest questions in this episode is simple:

If winning doesn’t make you stop and losing doesn’t make you stop, what exactly are you chasing?

For Ryan, the answer was the rush.

Ryan hasn’t placed a bet since May 20, 2023. Today, he can watch football without needing money riding on the outcome, without constantly checking odds, and without spending Monday trying to recover financially or emotionally from the weekend.

That may not provide the same adrenaline.

    That’s the point.

If football season is triggering your urge to gamble, you don’t necessarily have to stop loving sports. But you may need to change how you experience them while you protect your recovery.

    An urge isn’t an instruction.

And you don’t have to figure this out alone.

  • Why I Couldn’t Stop Gambling: It Wasn’t About the Money
    2026/09/15

If gambling was really about money, why didn’t losing it make me stop?

In this episode of The Last Bet, Ryan shares the realization that changed how he understood his gambling addiction: he wasn’t just chasing money. He was chasing anticipation, escape, and those few seconds before finding out whether he’d won or lost.

Drawing on his own experience, Ryan explores how winning became permission to keep betting, losing became a reason to chase losses, and both outcomes kept him stuck in the same cycle. He also discusses dopamine’s role in anticipation and reinforcement, the emotional needs gambling filled, and why recovery meant more than deleting betting apps.

From sports betting to blackjack, roulette, and slots, this conversation looks beyond the financial losses to ask: What feeling are you actually chasing?

Ryan hasn’t placed a bet since May 20, 2023. He shares what it took to adjust to life without constant action, find healthier ways to meet his needs, and recognize that what initially felt like boredom could actually be peace.

If you’re struggling to stop gambling, rebuilding your life in recovery, or trying to understand someone you love, this episode is for you.

  • How Casinos Keep You Gambling: The Psychology Behind the Bet
    2026/09/08

The casino does not need to cheat you. It just needs to keep you playing.

In this episode of The Last Bet, Ryan exposes the psychology behind casino gambling and shares how blackjack, craps, roulette, and slot machines kept him trapped in the cycle of chasing losses.

From casino chips that stop feeling like real money to near misses, “losses disguised as wins,” the illusion of control, and the desperate need to get even, Ryan breaks down how casinos are designed to keep gamblers engaged. He also explores why online casino apps can be even more dangerous when the distance between an urge and a bet is reduced to a tap on your phone.

Ryan spent years believing he could develop a better strategy, manage his bankroll differently, or finally learn when to walk away. Eventually, he discovered the only strategy that worked:

The only way to beat the casino was to stop walking through the door.

If gambling has ever cost you money, peace, relationships, or control, this episode asks one question that could change everything:

When was the last time gambling actually made your life better?
