The King Is Coming with Jeff Kinley Revelation's Guide to Knowing God: The New Heavens, the New Earth, and the City of God Jeff Kinley closes his series Revelation's Guide to Knowing God by turning to Revelation chapters 21 and 22, describing the new heavens, the new earth, and the New Jerusalem that God creates after the millennium and the Great White Throne Judgment. A New Book and a Promise of Something Better Jeff Kinley opens the broadcast by asking whether anyone looking at the state of the world can believe it will ever get better, and answers that it will, because God is going to create a new heavens and a new earth. He previews his new book, God's Grand Finale: Wrath, Grace, and Glory in Earth's Final Days, explaining that it walks through the entire Book of Revelation not simply to predict the future but to reveal thirteen attributes of God that help believers grow more intimate with him. Kinley places the day's teaching at the close of his series Revelation's Guide to Knowing God, noting that God wrote Revelation's judgments and apocalyptic imagery so that readers need not fear the book, since its real purpose is a closer relationship with him. The announcer reads offers for the book and for the six-part DVD series Revelation's Guide to Knowing God before Kinley returns to welcome listeners into Revelation chapter 21. Setting the Timeline After Armageddon Kinley orients listeners to where Revelation 21 falls in the prophetic timeline. Christ has already returned at the second coming, he explains, defeating the Antichrist and the false prophet in a brief battle of Armageddon and casting them into the lake of fire. Satan is then bound in a dark abyss for Christ's thousand-year millennial reign, a length Revelation 20 repeats six times in seven verses. At the millennium's end, Satan is released, deceives the nations born to tribulation survivors during that reign, and launches a doomed coup against Jerusalem that fire from heaven consumes. Kinley then describes the Great White Throne Judgment of Revelation 20:11-15, after which, he says, every form of evil has been dealt with: the Antichrist, the false prophet, the devil, sinners, and sin itself. Only after all of that, Kinley explains, does John write the opening words of chapter 21, describing a new heaven and a new earth, with the first heaven and earth having passed away. Splitting Every Atom in the Universe Turning to Second Peter, Kinley reads that the heavens will pass away with a roar, the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth's works will be burned up, telling listeners the old phrase "it's all going to burn" is literally true according to Scripture. He explains that the Greek word for "pass away" means to unleash or unbind, arguing this describes God unleashing the very atoms of the universe, splitting apart the mysterious force physicists call the strong force that, per Colossians chapter 1, actually holds together in Christ. Kinley recalls meeting the personal secretary of Robert Oppenheimer, the physicist who helped split the atom for the atomic bomb, and says God is about to split every atom in creation, producing an explosion believers will witness while being protected from it. Because God is the creator, from the Bible's opening words "in the beginning, God," he alone has the right to destroy his creation and remake it. The New Jerusalem Comes Down From Heaven Kinley reads Revelation 21's description of the holy city, the New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven adorned as a bride for her husband, and walks through the dimensions the chapter gives: 1,500 miles wide, long, and high, a cube he compares to a space stretching from Canada to the Gulf Coast and from Colorado to the East Coast. He calculates that eight billion Christians living there would each have roughly 175 acres, though he notes believers will move freely in and out of the city. Citing John chapter 14, Kinley identifies the New Jerusalem as the Father's house Jesus promised, furnished with everything heaven contains. He reads the loud voice from the throne declaring that the tabernacle of God is among men, that he will dwell with them as their God, and offers his simplest definition of heaven and eternity: it is, above everything else, being with God, who will wipe away every tear and end death, mourning, crying, and pain. Everything Heaven Will Not Contain Kinley walks through what Revelation 21 and 22 say will be absent from the new heavens and earth. There will be no more sea, which he says symbolizes chaos and disorder, no more tears because all hurt is removed, no more death because mortality is swallowed up in life, and no more mourning, crying, or pain because every sorrow and disease is eradicated. He assures listeners they will not relive bad memories there. Citing verse 6, he says there will be no more thirst because the water of life is given without cost, and in verse 8 no more wickedness, since the cowardly, unbelieving, and ...
