The Kellner badge clipped to a catfish that toppled his world
In this episode, we follow the moment a dead catfish with an employee badge resurfaces a chain of unexplained absences, repeated bank withdrawals, and a workplace fellowship that promised mutual aid. What happened to the woman whose routine life was measured in shift anniversaries and Thursday visits to a friend?
Date: August 3, 2011
Person: Marcia Parker
Location: Dunnfield, Ohio
Event: Kellner Plastics night-shift disappearance
Number: Twenty-two consecutive $180 withdrawals
- A retired machinist pulled a four-pound catfish from Crane Creek with a Kellner Plastics badge clipped to its dorsal fin.
- Marcia Parker, a 62-year-old night-shift worker with eleven years at the plant, missed two Thursday Lodge meetings and then called 911 to say only the word "money" and a name: Carl Burns.
- Carl Burns, a shift supervisor who promoted a Millward Brotherhood and collected $180 monthly tithes, claimed to run a mutual aid fund.
- Roy Hatch, Burns’s second-in-command, kept the Brotherhood books, logged six night runs labeled "supply disposal," and later confirmed the fund’s money flowed directly to Burns.
- Seventeen identity documents were discovered hidden inside a wall at the plant, while Marcia’s badge was already bagged as evidence from Crane Creek.
