  • Sin Wants You Alone — Here's Why That's Dangerous
    2026/08/11

Dietrich Bonhoeffer wrote that sin demands to have a person by himself. In this episode of The Journey We Share, Inés opens a new four-part series, No One Finishes Alone, by naming what isolation actually costs a believer, and where the protection was always meant to come from.

Recording on her own while co-host Kayleigh is home with her newborn son, Inés lets the empty chair beside her become the doorway into the series. She starts with how God built the rest of creation. Elephants turn their tusks outward and ring their calves. A zebra’s stripes only work when the herd stands together, because a predator cannot pick one animal out of the pattern. The animal that gets taken is the one standing by itself, and a believer who separates from the body of Christ becomes reachable in exactly the same way.

Then she goes back to where the Christian life begins. Working through 1 Peter 1, Ephesians 1 and 2, Hebrews 11 and 12, and Galatians 6, she makes the case that salvation is not a private transaction with God. It is adoption into a household. A newborn cannot feed herself or lift her own head, and nobody finds that scandalous. We hand her to a family.

She tells the story of walking into Mariners Church almost twenty-four years ago carrying deep shame, and being received anyway. She names what the body of Christ actually is, from a Sunday sanctuary to a living room where believers worship quietly because gathering is dangerous where they live. And she draws on Joseph Hellerman’s work on the early church as a surrogate family, from her doctoral study on discipleship this year.

If you have been treating your faith like a solo project, this episode will show you why that is a more exposed place to stand than you think, and what God built to cover you.

Next episode: the family is imperfect, and it is still where God heals you.
