• Episode 46: Building Your Financial Foundation and The American Dream: History and Promise
    2026/04/07

Thank you for joining us and listening to today's episode of the Immigrants in the USA Podcast.

Feel free to visit our official podcast website, https://rss.com/podcasts/immigrantsintheusa/ share, and subscribe.

Today's episode comes in two parts, based on two separate series of texts:

From "Your American Journey - A Guide for Immigrants"

This book was written for you — the person who packed everything they had into a suitcase and crossed an ocean, a border, or a continent to build something better. You may be just arriving, still finding your footing in the first bewildering weeks. Or you may have been here for years, working hard but feeling like the American dream was somehow designed for someone else.

    It was not.

America has always been built by people who came from somewhere else. Its greatest institutions, its most celebrated innovations, its most vibrant neighborhoods — all were shaped by men and women who arrived without connections, without fluency, without a roadmap, and who built one anyway. You are part of that tradition.

This book does not promise the journey will be easy. It will not be. It promises something better: that you will be prepared. Prepared for the financial systems that feel foreign. Prepared for the workplace dynamics that require a new playbook. Prepared for the emotional tides that no one warned you about. Prepared for emergencies, injustices, confusions, and setbacks — and for the joys, the breakthroughs, and the quiet moments when you realize, with something between pride and relief, that you are going to make it.

Every chapter in this book was built around one truth: knowledge is power, and power belongs to those who seek it. The families and individuals in these pages — Maria, Samuel, Linh, Pablo, Priya, Carlos, Fatima, the Hassans, Ana, Jin, Elena, the Nguyens — are composites of real immigrant experiences. Their struggles are real. Their triumphs are real. And their stories are yours to learn from.

Your American journey has already begun. This book is here to help you finish it well.

    Welcome. You belong here.

"Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free." — Emma Lazarus, The New Colossus — inscribed on the Statue of Liberty

From "Your New Home - A Guide for Newcomers to the USA"

You have taken one of the most courageous steps a human being can take: leaving everything familiar behind in search of something better. Whether you came seeking safety, opportunity, family, or freedom, you carry with you a story that deserves to be told — and a future that deserves to be built.

This guide is designed to give you a foundation — not just facts about the United States, but context, insight, and encouragement for the journey ahead. Each of the 24 chapters focuses on one essential dimension of American life: its culture, history, politics, geography, career landscape, and the stories of remarkable people who arrived as strangers and became pillars of this nation.

Each chapter presents a key fact from one of these categories, followed by a deeper explanation to help you truly understand what that fact means for your life — and closes with a message of motivation, because this journey requires courage at every step.

America has never been a finished project. It is always under construction, always being renewed by people who bring fresh energy, new perspectives, and the hunger to contribute. You are the latest in that great line. Welcome.

  • Episode 43: A Return to the Immigrantsinthe.US Podcast
    2025/01/31

Welcome back to the Immigrants in the United States Podcast. We are back after a nearly 4-month break. During this time we switched our podcasting platform to RSS.com, which we hope is a significant improvement. We're happy to continue sharing our episodes with you.

Welcome to the Immigrants in the USA Podcast, part of the www.immigrantsinthe.us website, founded by Ioan Elvis Sersea, M.A., M.A.T. aka Maestro Sersea, an English as a Second Language community college instructor and American citizen who immigrated from Romania in the early 1980s. We understand firsthand the challenges and triumphs that accompany the journey of building a new life in a foreign land. As fellow immigrants, we are passionate about sharing experiences and insights to help others navigate the complexities of life in America. Our podcast is a resource where we come together to explore topics that matter most to us—ranging from achieving success, building our careers, to mastering financial literacy and improving our English skills. Each week, through our carefully curated episodes, we delve into these essential subjects with empathy and understanding, offering practical advice and heartfelt stories that resonate with our shared experiences. We believe that every immigrant has a unique story worth telling, and through our podcast episodes, we aim to uplift one another as we forge new paths. Whether you are already here or planning your move to the USA, our goal is to equip you with valuable knowledge and support as you embark on this incredible journey. Join us as we celebrate resilience, foster connection, and empower each other to thrive in this vibrant tapestry of cultures—because together, we can navigate life’s challenges and seize opportunities for success in this beautiful country we now call home.

    Note from Maestro Sersea,

With the recent elections in the United States of America, there is a drastic change in how the United States Government views and acts towards securing the border and undocumented immigrants in the United States of America. Every country has the right and duty to secure and properly vet all who enter its borders. It is important to note that the violent criminal element, while present, does not represent the majority of hard-working and highly motivated people who are undocumented and here in the United States of America. It is my hope that those who are here to do good for our country and for themselves are given the opportunity to pursue proper documentation toward legal temporary work permits or permanent residence in the United States. It does not help anyone when public officials denigrate the dignity of undocumented immigrants and generalize the small element of criminality as representative of undocumented immigrants as a whole. I strongly recommend increased understanding, sensitivity, and compassion by our public officials, media, and citizenry. May God help us all and guide our public officials to do what's right for the United States of America and for humanity as a whole.
