Leah is declined at a gas station, left with only eighty-four dollars and the clothes on her back. Titus insists they can fight the fraud charges if they prove Mackenzie Hawkins legally gifted the diamond to before the ship sank. Leah remembers a hidden compartment and a faded piece of White Star Line stationery written the night before the sinking, explicitly granting the Diamant to Nana. There is one problem: it is locked in the wall safe of her seized penthouse, behind a faux-Monet. Using black-market keycards and service delivery uniforms, they slip past federal agents and Barbra’s goons into the eerily dark duplex, retrieving the brittle envelope. A rush of relief is short-lived as gloved hands drag them backward into the black.

Titus agrees to a midnight meeting at an abandoned boatyard in Montauk, but not to negotiate a payout. Days later, off-grid in a nameless motel in Maine, the rivalries blur. Titus confesses he brought this on her by going to the media. For the first time in a year, a relationship feels genuine to Leah, but a sickening, intrusive thought remains: Does he love her, or is he just trying to get close to the girl holding the Heart of the Ocean?
