  • Back to Basics: What You Need to Know About a Death Event at Home
    2026/03/20
This week’s episode features hospice nurse Shelley Henry in an in-depth discussion about what should happen when a death occurs at home. Many hospice patients chose to die at home, in familiar surroundings with their family members. It’s important that patients, caregivers, and end of life workers understand the things that happen at the time of a death. Here are some highlights to know: • A hospice team member might not be there when your Person dies. • Hospice agencies don’t provide ongoing bedside services when a person is dying unless there are symptoms that need to be managed. • The hospice team supports the family when there’s a death, notifying authorities as required, and providing grief support for those at the bedside. • If the death occurs inside a facility like an assisted living facility or a nursing home, the hospice team will coordinate with the facility staff. • Post-mortem care (respectful, gentle cleaning of a body after death) is often provided. • Narcotics should be destroyed in the home by the hospice nurse according to federal law. • Care at the time of death should never be hurried. Family members and caregivers should feel supported and never rushed. Get more information about hospice and connect with hospice nurse Shelley Henry at The Amity Group. • Find Help for the Administrative Tasks After a Loss
    2026/03/13
David Mulqueen has seen first hand the challenges of being an executor of an estate. He’s got some great insight and advice about managing the heavy lift of handling administrative tasks after a death. His company AnnCare was built to solve that problem, making the role of an executor so much easier and easing the grief burden of survivors. So many people avoid conversations about death. Often there’s no end of life or estate planning. It creates a mountain of to-do’s while the executor is grieving and still trying to manage life. The components that are part of an estate can be fairly simple, but the volume of the tasks can be time-consuming. David describes some of the financial, personal, and business situations that executors deal with. Just finding the one item to do first is a daunting task. Grief is often the biggest roadblock, slowly down thought processes. Being organized is key. Connect with AnnCare: AnnCare provides support services for clients needing help completing those administrative tasks. You can check out AnnCare services at anncare.io. • Learn How Technology Keeps Seniors Happy and Safe at Home
    2026/03/06
As a caregiver for his wife, David Walsh found purpose and meaning. As a business owner he’s carrying that purpose forward supporting seniors to live safely in their own homes. David’s wife Beatrice faced the end of her life with courage, and asked David to do the same as her caregiver. They had been partners for 30 years when Beatrice was told she had only four weeks to live during the Covid pandemic. While he acknowledged how difficult the caregiving was , David viewed his caregiving experience as an honor. Recalling this grievous experience, David remembers what a joy it was to spend the last year of Beatrice’s life in her own home. It was one of Beatrice’s end of life wishes, and they were able to honor that. David understands how much support people need as they age. He also knows how valuable it is for older adults to age in their own space. His work reflects what he learned during his wife’s illness. Halo Care provides a safety net for older adults living alone. They believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to live independently at home but when that time is getting more difficult, HaloCare provides additional help. Supported by innovative technology and passionate, caring people, HaloCare utilizes remote monitoring to empower people to live quality, independent lives in their own homes. Always respectful of dignity and privacy, there are no video cameras used in Halo Care’s systems and the technology is backed up by compassionate, real humans.
