Was Graig Nettles one of the greatest third basemen to ever play… or just another name lost in the numbers? This episode of Kenny The Sports Guy Podcast dives deep into one of baseball’s most debated Hall of Fame snubs.
A 22-year MLB veteran, Nettles crushed 390 home runs, drove in over 1,300 RBIs, and anchored championship teams with the New York Yankees. He was a six-time All-Star, a two-time World Series champion, and one of the best defensive third basemen of his era.
So why isn’t he in Cooperstown?
We break down the real reasons:
- A .248 career batting average that never wowed voters
- Limited accolades compared to peers at a stacked position
- Playing in the shadow of legends like Mike Schmidt and Brooks Robinson
- And a Hall of Fame voting system that dropped him off the ballot in just four years
But here’s the twist—advanced stats tell a different story. Nettles posted around 68 WAR, one of the highest totals for any player NOT in the Hall of Fame . So did voters get it wrong?
This episode asks the tough question: Was Graig Nettles truly snubbed… or just not quite elite enough?
🔥 Tune in as Kenny breaks down the legacy, the numbers, and the controversy behind one of baseball’s biggest “what if” Hall of Fame cases.
