The Great Boudini wasn’t just a character on TV, he was part of the after-school routine for a whole generation in Acadiana. We sit down with Ken Moe to get the real story behind the voice, the costumes, the magic tricks, and the homemade sets that made Fox 15 KADN feel local in the best way. From the jump, Ken takes us all the way back to Kaplan in the 1940s, when he first learns what “Halloween” is and tries trick-or-treating in a neighborhood that has no idea what he’s talking about.

From there, we follow the thread that turns a kid with stage fright into an entertainer: a school magician, the shock of a convincing illusion, and the lifelong obsession with making reality bend just enough to make people laugh. Ken also shares the creative work outside TV, including his long-running Beck Du comic strip and the messy, hilarious challenge of translating Cajun humor into classroom French without accidentally choosing words that land completely wrong.

Then we get into the local television history fans love: Dr. Santo’s swampy horror-host era, the birth of the Great Boudini name, and how the show evolves from movie intros into a full-blown kids world. Ken breaks down how much freedom he had to build sets, invent bits, bring on guests, and even write to NASA for astronaut audio to use as “space talk” in his DIY spaceship segments. And he’s honest about the flip side too: corporate affiliation, brand rules, sponsorship pressure, and what it feels like when a beloved local character gets pushed out.

We wrap with behind-the-scenes stories, public appearances like Pizza Playhouse, being recognized years later, and how Boudini lives on through nostalgia and newer projects, plus a chance to win an autographed portrait through our Facebook page.
