Welcome to the Good Music Show with Danny and Julius! Each episode they will give each other an album or playlist based around a theme, then talk about the music and artists that make it. They'll cover a wide spread of artists that they care deeply about: from 2Pac to Willie Nelson, John Prine to Donna Summer, Ray Charles to Future. Keeping an open mind to new styles allows Danny and Julius, as well as listeners, the opportunity to step out of individualized music bubbles and find new music to love.

  • S3 E6 Animal Collective's "Merriweather Post Pavilion" x Lucinda Williams' "Car Wheels on a Gravel Road" - Summer Albums
    2026/07/27

The sound of ocean waves, nighttime bugs in harmony, ice clinking in a glass of your favorite beverage, mosquitos buzzing and biting, the thick humid Southern air, the blistering sun beating down on you. Is summer overrated and/or the worst season? Maybe! But summer is possibly the best season for (good) MUSIC. Today after over a year of planning, we complete the 4th installment of our SEASONAL ALBUM series. 2 albums that exude summer, and happen to be the most celebrated albums in each artists' careers.

We start with Animal Collective's 2009 album Merriweather Post Pavilion. The sound of which is a very "live" sounding album even though it was recorded in a studio. Best listened while outside with the sunset in view, imagining you're at an outdoor music venue (such as the titular Pavilion) - buying rounds of beers that don't cost $20!

Then we turn to Lucinda Williams' 1998 breakthrough, "Car Wheels on a Gravel Road." A masterclass in songwriting, with production that sounds great on ANY speaker. Car radio, phone, Turtlebox Ranger™, the speakers at your local record store. These songs allow you to get lost in their rich detail and intense personal and/or semi-biographical storytelling - all while grooving along with a particular flavor of rock and roll that encompasses the blues, zydeco, folk, and punk.

  • S3 E5 Meme Songs (Playlist Episode)
    2026/07/06

Not us entering a flow state discussing memes! Today, from a purely academic and scholarly angle, we will talk about memes. How they affect society, how they've changed over the years, and most importantly: how they incorporate music. Some memes use a line from a song as a punchline, some songs generate viral dance trends or endless parodies. Sometimes the song itself is the meme of it all!

Swapping songs from our 4 song playlists, we'll talk about the moment each songs represent. We separate the peak from the ahh and mog the music podcast game. Along the way we'll touch on Drake (pause), Travis Scott, PSY, rage comics, and Lil B (yessssssss). Needless to say ts podcast will hit different, lowkenuinely.

  • S3 E4 The Allman Brothers Band's "At Fillmore East" x Erykah Badu's "Live" - Live Albums
    2026/06/08

The prompt for this episode is quite categorical: pick a live album. An album that was recorded live in front of an audience. After a brief generalized discussion on the medium of live albums and what they accomplish - we dive into Danny's pick, one of the most highly praised live albums of all time.

Consisting of 7 songs that span across two vinyl discs, Danny's pick, "At Fillmore East," was the Allman Brothers Band's 3rd overall album. It serves as a document of their early 70's live show, which pushed them to levels of popularity that their studio albums couldn't. With a ragtag crew of two masterful drummers, one of the greatest guitarists of all time and the only person who could keep up with and out-compose him, a dynamic bass player, and soulful lead vocalist/organ player - their powers are on full display "At Fillmore East" with no overdubs necessary.

A lesser-discussed but equally as powerful and moving live album is Erykah Badu's second overall album, simply called "Live." Julius's pick may have been a performance in-studio for industry professionals, but their enthusiasm and the tightness of all musicians involved allows you to become entranced with the live show Ms. Badu was bringing across the country to promote her debut, "Baduizm." With a bold proclamation regarding this album, Danny is now a proud converted Baduizt that will go on to spread the word of the magic captured on this 1997 release.
