Country life. Pop culture. Motherhood. The occasional existential crisis.

What does it actually mean to live the good life? For one television professional, it means leaving the city for the country, raising a daughter, keeping chickens, obsessing over a garden, cooking dinner, watching an unreasonable amount of television and film, and attempting to make ordinary life feel a little more beautiful—and occasionally a lot more ridiculous.

The Good Life, Unfortunately is a funny, stylish and slightly macabre look at modern life, where motherhood meets movies, Bravo meets business affairs, gardening meets glamour, and Martha Stewart occasionally collides with Morticia Addams.

Each episode explores the things that make life interesting: pop culture, cinema, television, motherhood, domestic life, food, gardening, seasonal living, beauty, nostalgia and the strange little obsessions that get us through the week.

Because a good life doesn't have to be perfect. It just has to be yours.

The Good Life...Unfortunately — Episode 5: The Good Life After Dark

The wedding is over, the chickens have been dispatched, and Halloween is upon us. In this episode, I'm embracing the spooky season with favourite Halloween traditions, seasonal comforts, and a movie watchlist for every level of October exhaustion — from campy cult classics to gothic horror and the Halloween favourites that keep our inner child alive.

Plus, a little life update, a return to the glory days of 90s birthday parties, and some thoughts on slowing down, taking care of ourselves, and preparing for the darker half of the year.

Light the candles, make something cozy, and settle in. The veil is thinning, the nights are getting longer, and we’re finding a little magic in the dark.

Because sometimes, the good life is a little spooky.

The candles are lit, the lights are low, and we’re getting into the Halloween spirit.

This week, we’re looking at three unforgettable women from some of my favourite Halloween and horror films: Debbie Jellinsky, Madeline Ashton, and Selina Kyle.

What does the Good Life look like when you’re willing to chase beauty, wealth, revenge, immortality, or reinvention at any cost?

From homicidal housewives to immortal divas and women discovering their power, we’re exploring what these iconic characters wanted — and what happens when getting the life you think you want comes with a price.

Because sometimes the Good Life is a little bit beautiful, a little bit terrifying… and unfortunately, never quite that simple.

    We need to talk.

    It’s not you. It’s me. Actually… it’s Toronto.

In this episode, I discuss my breakup with the city, the life I’d built there, and the version of myself I’d become along the way. What started as a search for “the good life” eventually became a decision to leave it all behind and start over in the country.

Plus, we get into the pop culture that makes fall feel like fall — my favourite autumn music, Thanksgiving movies, and all the cozy seasonal nostalgia that comes with them.

A little goodbye. A little identity crisis. And one very big leap into the unknown.

Welcome back to The Good Life, Unfortunately!
