Coming up with something new isn't the hard part. Getting somebody to use it is. Every second Thursday, Fabian Dudek talks to people inside large companies who find, test and adopt technology they didn't build. What they tried, what it cost, what they'd never repeat, and the system that made it stick. Plenty of shows tell the founder's story. This one takes the customer's side.© GlassDollar GmbH マネジメント マネジメント・リーダーシップ リーダーシップ 経済学

  • Venture Clienting at Lufthansa with Daniel Weber
    2026/09/21

Venture Clienting at Lufthansa Group: Daniel Weber runs Startup Gate within Lufthansa Innovation Hub, the team whose job is to make it easy for 100,000 colleagues to test and adopt technology from outside the company.

He has been with Lufthansa for 18 years, starting as a pilot cadet, and he still flies. For more than 20 years he also worked as a paramedic — three or four shifts a month alongside long-haul rotations, studying for it in a Kuala Lumpur hotel room while the rest of the crew went out for dinner.

Cameras on a conveyor belt. Computer vision measures every parcel moving through the warehouse and catches shipments that exceed their booked dimensions, which then get rebilled. Revenue on day one. The same data produces a second use case: automated 3D Tetris for building pallets, with dangerous goods and aircraft weight-and-balance factored in.

Before every project Daniel asks what happens if it fails. In a warehouse, not much, because the build-up gets double-checked anyway. Near flight operations or a central IT system, nobody boards and the whole operation stops. That answer decides how the project runs, not the technology.

People inside Lufthansa were already hunting for better technology long before anyone called it venture clienting. Each of them had to find their own way through, and none of them knew about the others. Twenty trample paths through the same forest. The method turns those into one Autobahn, which raises a fair question: is maintaining it still a full-time job once it's built?
