JD pulls up to the coffee spot looking for a young server he was short with on a bad day. Dude wasn't there. That small moment opens up into everything else on his mind this week.
In this one: why you can't let a customer's bad energy knock you off your pivot, and how to figure out what actually recharges you. Why therapy is maintenance, not failure, and why you don't graduate from it any more than you graduate from the gym. Why your great grandma ate pork chops and lived to 104, so quit selling people on the idea that a diet buys you time.
Then the real one. JD's settling into his forties and it ain't giving up, it's the game slowing down. Twenty year old thoughts don't come with twenty year old steps. At this age the blessing is you can read the play before it happens, so every step gets calculated.
Plus: listen to your elders and test what they tell you, why a dedicated route can beat freedom when you're young, and what his grandpa told him next to that pickup truck. Somebody's always watching. Make sure you comfortable with what you presenting.
If you knew you'd be grown way longer than you'd ever be a kid, you'd have enjoyed being a kid a whole lot more. Be a conserver, not a consumer. Save. Invest. Pay attention to math. And don't be worried about effing up, everybody do.
This worked for me. Take it or leave it.
