概要
An almost undetectable forgery sat unnoticed in a church sacristy for years - a Flemish panel replica aged inside a climate-controlled box for three years and seven months. How did a retired postal worker end up holding a counterfeit so convincing that forensic dating could not place it, and who planned the perfect swap?
In this episode, we tell how two craftsmen turned secrecy and patience into a scheme: one made a technical replica, the other engineered an opportunity to substitute it and sell the original. What choices and steps made the forgery so convincing, and what happened when the panel resurfaced in Saint Ambrose Church?

- The found panel measured 31 centimeters by 44 centimeters and was painted on oak.
- The original was attributed to an associate of Pieter van der Hoeven and dated circa 1642.
- Bell applied seven layers of chalk and rabbit-skin glue ground, each left to cure three weeks, before painting.
- The painted replica took four months to complete and was then aged in a controlled box for three years and seven months.
- The planned sale price for the original painting was $240,000 to a buyer in Rotterdam.
