A movie title that literally means “bubble guts” shouldn’t have a sold-out premiere, but that’s exactly what happened. From Mama’s Kitchen, we sit down with filmmaker Dave Rabalais plus lead actors Nick and Kristen to tell the origin story of The Fois, a Louisiana indie horror comedy that treats an absurd premise with serious craft: the ghost of an old Cajun mama rises up to punish a bayou community after someone cooks a nasty gumbo in her prize-winning pot.

We get into what sparked the idea (hint: gumbo recipe comment sections are their own battleground), why Dave intentionally chose the local spelling over the dictionary version, and how Cajun language and Acadiana food culture shape the film’s tone. Dave also breaks down what it’s like building a movie with an all-Louisiana cast, pulling in local content creators, and finishing production with real-life hurdles, travel, and tight schedules.

Then we zoom in on the premiere rollout at the historic Rice Theatre in Crowley, including the October 3 opening night, added show dates, and the very on-brand “brown carpet” welcome. We also talk what comes next: more theaters if possible, a streaming release plan, and the long list of sequel ideas that somehow keeps getting funnier.
