Content note: This episode includes personal reflections on miscarriage and pregnancy loss.
Do certain memories come back so clearly that you can almost feel yourself standing there again?
Welcome back to The Flying Treasure Hunter! I’m Deb J. Holliday, MSW, coming to you from my Blue Shed Studio. November always brings me back to the birth of my first child, and this time that memory opened a whole treasure chest.
I’m sharing the excitement of becoming a mother, the words I spoke on our front porch before heading to the hospital, and the heartbreak of three miscarriages that came before and between the joys of raising my children. These are personal memories, some sparkling and some painful, and I’m telling them as I remember them.
What I’ve learned is that memories matter. We can revisit them with the perspective we have today, recognize what they taught us, and decide what belongs in the life we’re living now. Sometimes the treasure is joy. Sometimes it’s empathy, wisdom, or the chance to be gentler with ourselves.
