This episode follows a hypothetical household outside the immediate devastation zone through the first seventy-two hours of a severe eruption scenario. A parked vehicle appears to offer escape, but ash changes the calculation. One adult wants to preserve it for a necessary medical move. Another depends on powered respiratory equipment. Their choices turn on the hazard actually reaching them, the condition of their shelter, their medical needs, and real instructions from local authorities.
Yellowstone is currently listed by the Yellowstone Volcano Observatory at NORMAL/GREEN and is not showing signs of an impending eruption. It is not overdue, and its next eruption would not automatically be a giant caldera-forming event. But Yellowstone is active, closely monitored, and capable of extraordinary eruptions over geologic time. If a severe eruption ever began, survival would depend on recognizing when to shelter, when movement is necessary, and how quickly ash can turn ordinary systems into fragile ones.
