What happens when the systems meant to prevent homelessness start failing the very people they were built to help?

Mary Francis Kenyon, Chief Equity Officer at the National Alliance to End Homelessness, joins me for a deeply personal conversation that starts with her own journey through addiction and recovery and expands into a much bigger story about homelessness in America.

We talk about the safety net that helped Mary Francis recover, why rural homelessness is so often invisible, the growing crisis facing older adults and people with disabilities, and why housing, treatment, harm reduction, recovery housing, and other solutions shouldn’t be pitted against each other.

Then we get into the political and legal fight over the Trump administration’s homelessness policies and what could happen to people who have already fought their way out of homelessness.

At the heart of our conversation is a simple idea: leave no one behind.

UPDATE: Since this conversation was recorded, a federal judge vacated HUD’s 2026 Continuum of Care funding notice. The Trump administration and HUD have appealed that ruling, so the legal fight continues.
