As she approaches the girls, their faces blur and shift, and the field begins to dissolve into a maze of identical childhoods. Under an oak tree, she finds a box containing a photograph that shows four girls—one of them wearing a key around her neck. The woman in yellow appears, scissors glinting, and tells Luna the whisper is the first promise itself, and it will unmake her if she hears it fully. Luna must decide whether to cover her ears or let the name in, as the field becomes a corridor of doors marked with every name she has ever been called.
