Luna recounts a night last October when she drove out to the abandoned Finch's Hotel on the edge of Thornwood, Iowa. Drawn by local stories of a room that wasn't on any floor plan, she talked her way past the 'No Trespassing' signs and into the lobby. What she found in the basement was a door—unmarked, locked from her side, but not locked from the other. Behind it, a hallway stretched longer than the building had any right to hold, lined with doors that held the sound of someone breathing. One of those doors had her name—or a name close enough to make her stop. She didn't go in. But she came home with clay under her nails that smelled like rain on dry dirt, and a number burned into the inside of her wrist that she can't explain.
