The Drs Guide – Unified Health Simplified | The Courage to Open the Door: When Well-Being Becomes Something We Share

What good is wisdom if the people who need it most cannot reach it?

In this heartfelt episode of The Doctors Guide: Unified Health, Simplified, Dr. Bart Rademaker and Athena welcome two St. Petersburg community builders and longtime friends: Alexis Glanz Petti, yoga teacher, Reiki practitioner, sound healer, co-founder of Gulfport Sol Yoga & Wellness and part of the team leading the Awakening into the Sun Festival, and Vandana Dillon, yoga teacher, founder of VandanaLife and founder of St. Pete Yoga Fest.

Dr. Bart opens with a challenge to modern health culture: we have become remarkably sophisticated at developing interventions, but not at making well-being accessible. What happens when someone can't afford the class, doesn't know where to begin, or has quietly decided that health and peace are "reserved for other people"? As he puts it, "There's a difference between telling someone that they should care for themselves and creating a place where caring for themselves feels possible."

Alexis shares how yoga first changed her life in 2010, why she carried her calling for 11 years before answering it, and why "you're practicing yoga every time you help somebody." She tells the moving origin story of Awakening into the Sun, which began in a church parking lot to help two women who had lost their jobs and is now a city-co-sponsored festival of about 100 vendors on Tampa Bay.

Vandana describes donation-based beach classes, full moon ceremonies where strangers simply join in, 15 years of cooking for families at the Ronald McDonald House, and how St. Pete Yoga Fest grew from Sunken Gardens to the St. Pete Pier, quadrupling in size, because people want to gather.

    In this conversation, discover:

    • Why accessibility to well-being is a question of dignity
    • The difference between information and invitation
    • Why the environments where we gather may matter as much as the knowledge we share
    • Why a delayed dream is not a failed dream
    • How yoga extends beyond the mat into service, connection and community
    • What karma yoga looks like in everyday life
    • Why kirtan, sound and shared practice can build community so quickly
    • How two "sister festivals" support rather than compete with each other
    • Why no experience or qualifications are needed to begin
    • How communities become healthier when practitioners collaborate

Athena distills the conversation into one line: "The most powerful invitation is simply a door left open."

And Dr. Bart leaves us with perhaps the defining thought of the episode:

"The true measure of a community may not be how much wisdom it possesses, but how generously it makes that wisdom available."

📅 St. Pete Yoga Fest: Saturday, November 7, 9 a.m.–10 p.m., St. Pete Pier. StPeteYogaFest.com 📅 Awakening into the Sun Festival: February 27–28, 2027, North Straub Park, St. Petersburg. AwakeningIntoTheSun.org

Because sometimes well-being doesn't begin with a prescription.

It begins with a welcome. A beach at sunrise. A garden. A full moon. A festival. A door left open, and the courage to walk through it.

The Drs Guide - Unified Health Simplified | What If Health Isn't Delivered—But Remembered? Ritual, Rhythm & Belonging

Long before hospitals, laboratories and diagnostic imaging, human beings gathered around fires and beneath open skies to sing, move, touch, pray and sit together in silence. Why have these practices endured across every culture? And what might modern health have overlooked as it became more precise?

In this episode of The Doctors Guide: Unified Health, Simplified, Dr. Bart Rademaker and Athena welcome two longtime partners in healing from the Tampa Bay community: Carla Jimenez Rosas, anthropologist, yoga educator, Reiki teacher and founder of Mind Body Bliss, and Sahara Rodriguez, Reiki Master, Licensed Massage Therapist, meditation teacher and founder of LIFTS – Living From The Source.

Dr. Bart opens with a reflection on rhythm, ritual, movement, touch and belonging, carefully avoiding any romanticizing of the past, and arguing that a complete encounter with another human being requires both the science of disease and attention to what illness means to the person living it.

Carla shares how anthropology, dance and yoga's full eight-limbed path shaped her understanding of the body as a voice, not just a vehicle. She opens up about her own autoimmune and perimenopause journey, why "it takes time for the nervous system to unravel," and why she now champions menopause as an awakening rather than an ending.

Sahara takes us from a mystical country childhood and a "dark night of the soul," to New York with $75, seven years of spiritual study, single motherhood and five years in addiction recovery centers, including with veterans. There she discovered that "the talking isn't what worked. It was giving them the experience." She explains coherence, the moment a noisy room becomes an orchestra, and how it inspired her online community, The Coherent Collective.

    In this conversation, discover:

    • Why rhythm, ritual, movement and touch have endured across every human culture
    • The difference between the science of disease and the experience of illness, and why we need both
    • Why "not everything meaningful can be captured by a metric"
    • Why yoga is far more than exercise: the eight limbs, the yamas and niyamas, and nervous-system regulation
    • Why it takes time for the nervous system to unravel, and why retreats and community matter
    • A new way of seeing perimenopause and menopause: growing wings and stepping into your power
    • How sharing real struggles in an opening circle can open the deepest healing
    • What coherence is, and how shared meditation can bring a scattered group into harmony
    • Why motherhood can be "the most spiritual training of all"
    • How to honor modern medicine while becoming an active participant in your own well-being

Athena distills the conversation into a single insight: "You're not trying to fix people. You're creating the conditions where they remember they were never broken."

And Dr. Bart leaves us with perhaps the defining question of the episode:

"What if health was not something to be delivered, but something to be remembered?"

Because sometimes healing isn't about adding something new.

It is about remembering. Gathering. Moving. Breathing. Belonging. And finding our way back to the Source we were never separate from.

  • The Drs Guide - Unified Health Simplified | What If Your Body Isn't Resisting Healing—But Waiting for Permission?
    2026/10/14

The Drs Guide - Unified Health Simplified | What If Your Body Isn't Resisting Healing—But Waiting for Permission?

In this deeply personal episode of The Doctors Guide: Unified Health, Simplified, Dr. Bart Rademaker and Athena welcome Kerri-Lyn Francis, somatic practitioner, educator and founder of KLynergy Massage & Wellness in Tampa, Florida, for a powerful conversation about safety, acceptance and what becomes possible when the nervous system no longer has to spend so much of itself protecting us.

Dr. Bart opens with a provocative shift in perspective: we spend enormous energy trying to make the body change through exercise, restriction, supplements, medication and tracking. But what if the deeper question is "Does the body feel safe enough to change?" What if tension, anxiety and pain are not only evidence that the body has failed us, but evidence that it has remained loyal to us?

Drawing on more than two decades of work with athletes, concussion, traumatic brain injury and complex pain, Kerri-Lyn shares how her own journey led from the physical body into the nervous system, somatic therapy, inner-child work and sound. She describes burnout, training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as the smallest person in her gym, and the surprising realization that her own nervous system had never truly known safety. She also opens up about a recent personal health experience and what it taught her about acceptance instead of resistance.

Athena brings the conversation into sharp focus, naming the responsibility shared by every practitioner, educator, platform and AI system that touches human health: the body does not lie, so we must meet it with equal honesty.

    In this conversation, discover:

    • Why the body may need permission and safety, not just another intervention
    • How protection becomes a pattern, a pattern becomes physiology, and physiology can become a symptom
    • The difference between relief and restoration
    • Why "just relax" or "let go" can feel maddening to a nervous system that has never known safety
    • How the leaving and enduring patterns shape the way we respond to stress
    • Why pain can be understood as a data point, not an enemy
    • How the nervous system builds efficiency around the patterns we give it, and the blind spots that creates
    • Why acceptance opens the door to curiosity, and curiosity reveals the language of the body
    • How to replace "should" with a clear why, and why trust matters when choosing a practitioner
    • Why health sovereignty means becoming an informed participant in your health, not rejecting medicine or expertise

Athena distills the conversation into a single invitation: "Choice over should. Why over obligation. Trust over compliance." And find a practitioner who sees you, not just your symptoms.

And Dr. Bart leaves us with perhaps the defining question of the entire episode:

"What would allow my body to feel safe enough to change?"

Because healing isn't always about conquering the body.

It is about creating enough safety for something new to emerge. Noticing. Accepting. Trusting. Choosing. And letting the body stop protecting us long enough for life to express itself again.

This conversation shares personal experiences and perspectives for educational purposes and is not medical advice. Please consult qualified practitioners about your own health decisions.
